Old vs. New

oh I missed this part I jumped the gun. I thought you were saying the music back in the day was sh1t. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
Yes I will agree that Tool, and A Perfect Circle bring very very strong emotional ties to things in my life. I'm typing this as I'm listening to APC - Orestes //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
God no, I absolutely love classic rock, you should see my iTunes, filled with old stuff, also filled with new stuff. I like it all, except for most rap and all country.

I agree, there are the shitty bands/"musicians" like that who will be forgotten in 5 years and then theres the Tools, NINs, Mars Voltas, APCs, Dream Theaters who will be remembered 30 years from now just as fondly as we look back on the Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd era. I also have to throw another band out there that absolutely amazes me, The Moody Blues, I listen to "In Search of the Lost Chord" and am absolutely mesmerized.
Mars Volta reminds me a lot of Pink Floyd actually. There music has very similar, uhhh, riffs? Sounds? I suppose. I love the first album they put out, amazing CD.

if I could hand you my playlist I would. I have all 3 of the albums they put out. Wonderful music, very very different from Tool.

I agree, music back then was awesome, I listen to Pink Floyd and am taken to another world, but I listen to Tool or A Perfect Circle or NIN and it does the same for me. Its different though because the bands like Pink Floyd, The Who, The Doors, Led Zeppelin et al. influenced these current bands, so while these current bands may not be breaking ground per se, their music is still just as moving and amazing as those previous bands imo.
theres something about current rock bands that kind of irks me...like it sounds like the musicians are crying in a manly way.

Hurt by NIN is amazing, but when cash covered it, it just boosted the emotional level 10 fold (does that count as old vs new? lol) also have you heard KORN's rendition of Another Brick in the Wall? Greatest rock cover...EVER

Get "Mer de Noms" and "Thirteenth Step" absolutely amazing albums, eMOTIVe not so much.
Emotive, the only good songs on there is passive, and when the levee breaks. I Like both the other albums though.

The hollow, Judith, 3 libras, Orestes from Mer De Noms

The Package, The noose, The Outsider, Weak and Powerless, and Blue from Thirteen Steps.

I have, it's pretty good. I like APC's cover of John Lenon's Imagine, and I really like Saul Williams' cover of "Sunday Bloody Sunday"

Personally I don;t think there's a bad song on either of those 2 albums, but I still prefer Thirteenth Step.

What's some other good newer progressive rock? I've been meaning to try and find a few new bands :p
Dream theater, Liquid tension experiment are the only ones that stand out to me. I really enjoy listenting to dream theaters "IMages and words" and "A change of seasons" (very few bands can successfuly pull off 20 minute song). Also try opeth's D@mnation"

Dream Theater does that a lot and can get away with it too.
