Old Soundstreams vs Hertz HSK-165?

Ok, I have soundstream Exact 6 mids in my car (bought in 98) and replaced them last week with new Hertz HSK165's. The hertz don't sound like they can get as low crossed at 80hz. When the soundstreams were released, they were billed as the first TRUE 6.5" speaker not counting the basket. I checked and they are indeed a 1/2" bigger than the hertz.

So, is it reasonable that these older speakers are better? I already put the soundstreams back in the doors and will probably sell the hertz here or on ebay. I'm running JL XR tweets as the soundstream tweets were stolen a few years back and they're too bright. I'm thinking of either going with a better mid/tweet setup or just getting better tweets if anyone knows of any. I don't mind paying for the better sound so I'm looking for something comparable or better than the soundstreams. Maybe even a 7" mid if I can fit it in a 98' mustang. Plz advise and thanks in advance!

The Exact 6's are very nice drivers. Buy yourself some Vifa D26 tweeters which are very close to what Soundstream used as the Exact tweeter, as did ADS and Eclipse and you will be good to go. Now if you decided to let them go let me know i might take them off you hands looking for some mids for my wife's Jeep.

Thanks, will keep you in mind if I get a new setup. I've been out of car audio for awhile but from what I gather Soundstream was sold and is not high quality nowdays? I remember the exacts were pretty expensive for 1998. Yes, the Exact 6 weighed a good bit more than the hertz and the basket is just huge and looks like spider legs on the back (Tarantula type I guess as I remember all their Tarantula amps back then). SO the Vifa tweets are probably the best possible tweets for these comps then, correct? I'm open to more tweet suggestions if there are any downsides to the vifa's. thanks

Not saying the D26 is the best by no means, but it is what the soundstream exact was related to. Not sure of your budget, but I love the Hertz ML280 (very costly),the Hertz ML28/Space 1 which I think is one of the best tweeters I have had the pleasure of owning or listening to. You have the Pioneer PRS tweeter which is great from 3.5 and up. The Seas Neo, The Hybrid Audio L1 and L1 Pro are outstanding tweeters. Then you have The Rainbow Cal27 and some of the other Rainbow tweeters. So their is a ton of choice out there.

The Vifa D26 is just the one the is close to the exact. Vifa made drivers for soundstream among other companies.
