I have been completely out of the game for years. Basically I am a veteran with PTSD and I got into the hobby while deployed. My last decent setup was an RD heavyweight 15” and some hertz components. I am shopping around for some really low power coax or component 6.5” to get powered from my unit, and probably some 6x9 for the rear deck since the factory ones sound like poo poo. I may add an amp and sub later on but I have like no budget compared to the good old days in 2008-9-10 when I was last active. The hertz 170 coax looks like a decent set, and the focal auditor series has a discontinued 3 way set with pods for the tweet and mid that looks like it could easily get molded in the door. The downside is the car is a Kia. I wouldn’t be driving if it wasn’t free. Cool to see there’s still some community here a decade later.

Man, I'll tell you what, I just reread that. Some of my best customers are active or retired military. I have soldier enclosure friends: one was a blackhawk door gunner, one a CH-47 mechanic, one is a Bradley mechanic, I know there's others that I'm forgetting as well.

I appreciate you responding. I was a welder, but we did recovery and all the regular POG stuff like guard duty and goin on convoys. I was stationed at Stewart and in 2010 I dragged my friend to a couple shows in Jacksonville and Savannah. I met a few really cool people, one that I bought my rd heavyweight from basically gave me the box it was in. I had a rough time transitioning and I lost my veteran girlfriend to cancer 2 months after I got out. I was really drunk for about the next ten years and I’m not anymore. Trying to make my life a little bit better.

Man.. for Drop Inns/ HU Power... These are hard to beat for the price in my experience. I like the older DB version.. but they are a little more expensive at times. Pretty decent packaged deal. They do sound really good on power, and come alive with a min. of 50 watts rms
Nothing pops up but I’m guessing that you are talking about polks? I’m open to considerations I just really liked the mids I had before from hertz I just don’t have an amp or anything to really push a good set. The car doesn’t have the electric system to support a lot so I will probably build or buy an oversized enclosure for the sub when I get there to raise the sensitivity of whatever I decide to do.

Best of luck man. That's why I love audio, nothing gets the pain out like blowing your doors off with bass.

What year and model Kia? I'm all about budget builds, so I might be able to steer you in the direction of some good deals
It’s a 2008 Kia Rio. I’m happy that you understand this is not about competing or being the loudest on the block. I’m just trying to make it a little bit better. I liked the hertz components I had in the past and figured even the lowest level of coaxial is gonna have a little bit more mid bass than the comparable product from most places. I could be dead wrong with that. I’m also not trying to make a weekend out of doing my doors, so I’ll probably slap a couple pieces of dampener in the skin, and try to seal the big holes but I have to do it all on a budget. I’m not trying to deal with amp and wiring yet. Maybe in a couple of months I will get around to a sub stage but I don’t want to deal with “spl problems” I don’t know if that makes sense but I’ve dealt with broken mirrors and rattling pieces enough to know this car wouldn’t hold up to my old system if I had the electrical to support it.

Ok I SAID I wasn’t looking at subs yet but I’m just curious since looking at the specs this might meet my needs. I found a old school 10” RF audiophile for 40$ locally. Has a low fs wants a really small enclosure and has low power handling. I don’t have a computer to even try modeling it on, but I have a sub now. 👊

Kicker coaxials are pretty solid on low power and I've always had good luck with Jbl/Infinity lineup. IMO just about anything outside the gutter brands should perform about the same in your price range.

Good to hear you put the drink down. You may be surprised at how much spare money and time you have after a little while of that trend.

I appreciate your input on both subjects. I definitely have a lot of time, it’s just a matter of figuring out how to use it. I haven’t even looked at the current offerings of the “mainstream” brands because it’s just hard to get unbiased information about those products. That’s why I was really interested in the feedback if any from the hertz and focal entry level sets. I’m gonna see if I like anything from a big box store and if I get anything I’ll let everyone following the thread know what I went with.
