Well, i just decided to get a new car stereo put in my car. Being that i just decided a few days ago, i have no idea at all about car stereos and whats good and whats not. So i bring my questions here. my First question is which one of these speakers are better? the Sony XS-V6945X or the Sony XS-V6950H? (shopping at http://www.onlinecarstereo.com) and if you know a better buy with in this price range then these speakers would ya plz tell me the model and maybe even a site where i can get them. Do i need to buy an amp for these? i am buying 4 of them total for my explorer (year is a 93) i looked up the speaker sizes on crutchfield.com and it says 6 x 8 but a friend of myne said i could open the speaker hole in my door to a 6 x 9, so that is my plan. and if i do need an amp, could ya also give me a link to a good sony one ( i am trying to keep all this the same product for looks and such) if sony is a bad product, also plz let me know. Um, what else... oh the head unit i plan on buying is a Sony CDX-F7005X. again if you know any better buys with in those price rangs let me know. um, oh yea 1 last thing, on http://www.onlinecarstereo.com it says that speakers come in pairs unless otherwise noted, but on some speakers it says the model then (pair)... so do the ones that dont have (pair) mean that there is only 1 speaker or does that not matter? because once you click on the speaker near the bottom it says this "Speakers and component speakers are usually come as a pair unless noted differently." i greatly appreciate any help you guys give me. and could you also tell me anything else i need to buy for my speakers ie: amp, wireing kit, glue. i have no idea what i am doing and i plan to have either abc warehouse or best buy put them in. so yea, those are my questions and thanks alot in advance for those of you that decide to answer my questions.

personelly if your goin to stick with 1 brand dont choose sony..imo...they dont have a very good name here, do to the fact of build qualty, and overall sound... go to http://www.ikesound.com for some great prices...i really like this place..

anyways, check out the alpine, fosgate, mb quart, jbl, ect...all of wich i think are better then sony..

i would get 5.25 adapter plates for the front so you can put that 5.25 speaker in there instead of a 6x8 or 6x9. you might even beable to sceeze a 6.5 in there..generally a round speaker sounds better then a oval speaker..

if i were you i'd spend about 150 on components and 50 on rear speakers...unless you have more to spend..im basing this on what you listed for the 2 sets...speaking of wich most of the time the speakers come in pairs..unless they say they sell them individualy(highly doubt) they will be sold in pairs. no worrys..

ok thanks alot, honestly i have no idea about car audio and thats just what i wanted to hear, so you tell me to get some componet speakers for front, and normal speakers in the back? and just to bring up another one of my questions from before, do i need an amp or anything for non stock speakers?

An amp is always a nice thing to have for highs, but I dont think you would need an amp for what you're going for. As far as 6x9's, I am very happy with my Pioneers. But, with any brand, be sure to get at least 3-way, 4 or 5-way is even better. Pioneer head units are also good quality. Also, are you planning on purchasing a subwoofer and amp? Good luck man

Correction: Round speakers sound better than oval speakers if they're the same quality. Pioneer 6x9s sound better than Legacy 6.5s. I can almost guarantee that.

Ebay sells little kits specifically for turning a 6X8 spot into a 6.5 spot. You can also mod a 6X9 spot to hold a 5.25 midbass speaker and a 1" tweeter, if you're looking into a component set. 1/4" sheets of plywood or something will do the trick.

Anyway, back on topic.

An ideal setup, according to a collective judgement around here is this:

* a component set for the front

* normal speakers for the rear, or none at all if noone ever rides in the back

* amp & subs in a DECENT enclosure. See the enclosure forum for info. The box will make or break your setup.

Oh, and for the most part, avoid Sony.
