Ohm's ?

OHM stands for nothing, it's a word. As for the different ratings, no one is better than another. It only matters because it dictates how you can wire your set up
last time I checked ohm was short for ohmega... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

lolz

An ohm is just a unit of, in our case being speakers, electrical impedance. For direct current applications, think resistance. And jah, it was named after Georg Ohm.

ohmega is not a word. I believe you are looking for the word omega, which is actually a letter in the ancient Greek alphabet, but is also used as a variable in several scientific equations (mainly physics). Go back to science class bud;)

Ohms is a measure of resistance, sometimes called impedance.

An electrical circuit is a closed loop path in which the electrons flow from the anode to the cathode (pos and neg).

The measure of ohms is how much resistance the speaker places on the electrical circuit.. In other words, how much the speaker resists the flow of electrons, which is dictated by the voice coil windings.

The only 'best' impedance is the one that best fits your needs. You buy an amp, its only stable down to a certain impedance, running below it will overheat the amplifier. Basically, find the model of sub you want, figure out the impedance options you can buy that sub in, then go out and find an amplifier that makes its maximum output level at one of those imepdances. Viola, amplifier and speaker(s) are matched together.

JUST WONDERING WHAT OHM STANDS FOR?
wHATS BEST? 2OHM, 4OHM, DUAL-2OHM, DUAL-4OHM?

keep going........

almost there........

YOU'RE SO CLOSE.........

OHM STANDS FOR..............

*****************DRUM ROLL*********************

OHM

and to answer your question:

There is no best, there is only different.

In short (very very short) ohm is a measurement of resistance. changing the ohm's (impedance) of the subwoofer does not change the subwoofer or make it perform any different, but it may allow the amplifier to provide more current to the coil which gives it more power. You want to maximum the amp using the best match impedance.

So for example

If you your amp does 100 watts at 4 ohms and 200 watts and 2 ohms and it cant do 1 ohm.

Do not buy a single 1 ohm sub

Do not buy a single 4 ohm sub

Buy either a dual 4 ohm sub to wire in parallel to get 2 ohms, or buy a single 2 ohm sub and wire it right up or a dual 1 ohm sub and wire them in series to get 2 ohms.

By dual and single I mean VOICE COIL (DVC, SVC) etc etc…

HEHE that rhymed
