Is there any way you can tell how many ohms an amp is by just looking at the amp.

rephrase the question....are you trying to see if an amp is stable at a certain ohm load?

I guess I worded that bad.... With the premium sound that came in my car it came with an amp and I was told it might not be able to power 4ohm speakers so I was wondering how I could tell.

i had 4 ohm speakers in my ford ranger (w/ premium sound) and had no problems with it but i eventually upgraded to a set of comps and comp amp

You can't.....unless it's actually stated somewhere on the outside of the amp.

What car do you have, and what are you trying to do.....just replace the stock speakers ?

Your best bet is to look at the speakers, not the amp. If the stock speakers are 4 ohm, then the amp will work on a 4 ohm load. If they're 6 or 8 ohm, it probably will not like a 4 ohm speaker.

Uhh.. lol.

Look @ tha owners manual to see where the amp is stable.

Then make the decision & do the math whether a single or multiple 4 or 8 ohm speakers will work.
