Official CarAudio.com Big 3 Thread (((PICS)))

Any unused bolt on the engine will work fine for mounting the wire on your engine block. Just make sure it isn't used... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

okayy.. wait engine block does not equal chassis?

confusion sets in.. lol ive got a long time before I actually try the Big 3 might as well clear out all questions

anyone ever do this on a '01 Mitsubishi Galant?

My alternator seems to be buried under the engine and I have no idea how I'm going to get under there.. probably have to jack it up but I'm not looking forward to that seeing as I'm pretty inexperienced with all this stuff

Okay, a few questions for you guys...

1)what size wire would you recommend i use for the alt->batt + wire?

2)what amperage fuse would i use for said wire?

3) lets say my stock alternator puts out 80 amps, and with a/c and all engine electronics and such going on, im using 20 amps of that max output. If i fues my alt->batt wire for lets say 200 amps, will that allow my amp to draw more current than my alt is rated for, thereby toasting my alt? or is that something i shouldnt worry about... btw im runing an old Alpine MRV-1507 (80A fuse on amp from factory).

Great info though. on a scale of 1-10, how much would you say this helps your system out?

1- 1/0 guage or bigger wire

2- Fuse for the max amperage of the wire (I think at that length 200 for 1/0 should be good)

3- Having a smaller fuse will not cause you to avoid pulling too much power, it will still blow if you go over the rated amperage, it doesnt cause a bottleneck for the electricity flow. So no, if your alt's gonna toast, it's gonna toast. Fusing for the max amperage of the wire is to prevent burning wires/fires.

ah ha... okay, so lets say that i DONT upgrade the alt to battery line... I still have a chance to toast my alt right? Cuz if im gonna pull as much amps with or without the upgrade, it wont matter, so upgrade it anyway right? Cool. Thanks a bunch you guys

okay i have one more question

could this be the positive bolt on my alternator? people have said it would be red but theres nothing connected to it and no rubber covering...
