Odd SketchUp problem...

I just started using it proficiently this week. I'm modeling up an enclosure for someone and all of a sudden my computer locks up every time i do anything with the program. Yeah my computer is old. Earlier I had a ton of programs running and SketchUp was running fine. I added panel measurements, rotated enclosure to cut sub hole, and all of a sudden things went crazy. I even tried closing everything else but SketchUp.

I closed everything, reopened SketchUp, and same thing happened. Then I rebooted, opened the file with SketchUp, and still the same problem. I've drawn the sub circle and was ready to erase the cross-lines used to find the circle's center. SketchUp is using just 6 MB of RAM, yet CPU usage is maxing out at 100%. I closed SketchUp, I'm typing this up with Firefox, and everything else seems to be running fine!

So this was the first time I've added dimensions prior to being done. Was that a mistake on my part? Has anyone else ever had a problem with SketchUp freezing up like this? Oh and by the way I know this is moreso an OT question, but I know there are a ton of SketchUp users roaming in this section.

Thanks!

I have never had a problem with sketchup like that. What kind of computer are you running? Also, what gen of sketchup do you have? I just upgraded to 6 Pro, and I hate it so far. 5 was much more intuitive.

I was considering upgrading to SketchUP Pro 6, but after reading up on the difference's between 5 and 6, it made little sense to me to do so and after reading this, I'm glad I didn't upgrade.

Version 5.0.305 is what I'm running. The computer is a DIY setup from 2002 with 950mhz Celeron, 256mb pc130 RAM, 40gb C drive, and 250gb storage drive. Just starting the program really slowed things down again, but I closed it once I got the version number.

Yeah man, SketchUp is a fairly mild program, but your chip needs serious upgrading, and you need at least double, if not 4-8x the RAM.
