Anyone need a system???? LOL sorry this thing has given me nothing but greif. Anyway here is my trouble.

System

deck-Pioneer Deh-P8400MP

2 amps- 1st esx 175x2 running components

2nd amp esx 475.1 running sub

front speaks jl xr650 coaxial

rear pioneer 6x9 4 ways

subwoofer brahma 12 in ported box

power

90 amp alternator

4 gauge system

80 amp fuse for sub amp

30 amp for component amp

150 amp stinger block fuse for system.

Initial troubles with lights dimming at higher volumes, I found this acceptable at the time.

other then have 2 sets of component blow (stereo shop didnt read the manual) they also fried the deck by accidentally hooking the power wire to a speaker wire and I also had to have the tensel leads redone (at no cost, cept shipping THANK GOD)

on the brahma. Everything was great //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

My new problem is ever since I smelt an electrical smell i.e. something smoking. my sub amp cuts off at like volume of 13-16 with serious voltage drops. I thought it was the alternator. Took it to dealership since it is under extended warranty and they replaced it. Still having the same problem after new Alternator. I understand I may need a second alt or a bigger alt. But could the battery possibly be failing or am I missing something? checked fuses and wiring nothing loose or blown. And lets not get into what the dealership had to say. Going to wally world tonight since battery is still warranteed and see if that is the trouble. Any ideas please post.

Thanks

Forgot to add that the sub is bridged @ 1 ohm

the one thing u failed to mention is if the amp is one ohm mono stable? and if it is do u have the gains set properly??? my guess is u have them to high and the amp is sending a clilpped signal to the sub....which will cause the voice coils to burn up.....

Yes it is stable. Had everything checked last night. Sub-woofer is fine. The amp goes into protection mode after trying to draw a large amount of current from the system. At lets say vloume of 30 and above I did get some light dimmage fair amount. at 40 it was really noticable. Now wehn I turn the sytem up to say 16 it dims the lights more than if it were turned up to 40. So I am assuming I may have fried something in the amplifier possibly a resistor and a capacitor. I was running this setup for about 5 months now off and on. The gain is turned down on the amp as well.

ok, sounds like you are drawing too much current from the system.

during long bass notes (especially in the low frequencies 20hz - 50hz) your amplifier will draw pretty close to max current. you say your Alt is only 90 amps.

quick math:

80A + 30A + 40A + 10A = 160A

80A for sub amplifier

30A for component Amplifer

40A for cars electrical system

10A to recharge battery with

You are drawing almost 2X what your alternator puts out, so when those bass notes hit it draws the extra surrent off your battery causing a HUGE voltage drop (put a volt meter across your battery, you may find that it drops down to 9-10 volts or even lower). You NEED a larger Alternator

well i say get an optima yellow top battery. that will help for the being. but the big help would be say like a 150 amp alt. go bigger if u can. the reason the sub amp might be drawing alot is cuz u have it wired at 1 ohm

i'd actually go w/ a red top.....yellow tops are for stand alone system batts....red are replacements for the starting batt...

I agree. Hence the Word "MARINE".

The Blue-tops are deep cycle batteries with HUGE storage capacity. They are designed for running lights, inverters and small sound system. You COULD use one in a car, but the yellow tops are better for deep cycle use, and teh reds for starting

excuse u pimp (lol) but for real my Boss who owns his own shop has one in his van. Van has 3 12's and hits around 134 some where in there and that is all the he has and lil .5 frad cap hooked into 1600 watt amp and nothing dims that is with the all the tv's and the ps2 running

Blown voice coil. First answer was dead nuts. Lucky for me Adire has someone in memphis helping with repairs so shipping wasnt so bad. Thanks for the help. Now for a new thread on my amplifier problem //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Yeah that's what i was about to tell u. You have to becareful not to continue to play your amp if it keeps shutting off at high volumes it can destory your amp. i messed up an amp that way once. When my amp was messed up it kept going into protect mode on and off constatnly. Good luck for getting your amp fixed.
