Hooked up my Memphis 1500d today but had no sub to hook it too. Anyway, on my way to class, my highs started distortin at lower levels and eventually just cut off. I cut off the car n cut it back on and they came back on. My first guess is not enough power tto amp but the Memphis has nothing hooked up to it...could it still b pulling that much current??

I have zro gauge wiring with a batcap 800 in trunk and stock 100a alt.

sounds like your wiring might be shorting somewheres

wire might be shorting, gain might be to high, loose wire, bad rcas. check all dat!

Also you shouldn't have the amp hooked up if you have no woofer on it If you have no where for the power to go to it bad for the amp. Disconnect the remote wire on it until you get your sub

I'm not sYing you can't do it I'm saying its not good to run the for long periods of time without some where for the power to go to.

Ill have to check my wires but I don't think that's it because I had kicker zx300 working on same wiring. Any other options?

oh okay i get it now. i thought you meant like your amp can spontaniously combust if you play it one second without anything hooked up to it lol

sounds like your amp is going into protect... which can be on either buisness end of the amp (input or output) ... what equipment are you using?

Check and make sure none of your speaker wires are touching. If a positive/negative touch it can make a scratchy distorted sound and can cut the sound out.

But the highs amp was perfect yesterday. Soon as i added the Memphis, problems arose.

But if I restart the car, it works fine. I don't get it

thats what tells me its going into protect... restarting your car will reset the amp, which in turn will reset its protect circuit...

most likely, when you added the second amp, you mis-placed a wire, or ended up with a loose ground... as the second amp wont pull too much amperage without being hooked up to a sub.. it will have alot of potential but not much output
