noob's new setup

hello everyone.

i been browsing this forum with my android phone for a while so now that i got my computer back, i've decided to join:)

well i do need some recs and suggs for my new audio setup.

for starters, i have two hdc3 12 d2 coppers and two amps.

one is a Pipe 3k and the other is a '04-05ish Tek 4000.1d

i was thinking about selling the two AQ's and the Pipe to get either a DC lvl 5 15,(2) xl 12's,or (2) SSA xcon subs to run with the Autotek amp daily.

reason for wanting to do so is because i want subs that can handle 4000+ for a daily setup without taking up a bunch of space in the trunk.

well i was told that the hdc3's will handle 2k per sub depending on the box and where the gains and boost levels are set at but i don't know.

should i keep what i have and use the Pipe to break in the hdc3's and then use the Tek later or should i go with one of the other sub setups i mentioned and sell the hdc3's and Pipe?

kinda hard to make my mind up. lol

BTW, the vehicle is a '97 Buick Rivi and setup will be in the trunk.

also have Dynamat peel/seal for trunk, doors, and tag.

thanks in advance!

well i think i have enough space for a 4.25 cube box after displacement or something big enough for two big 12's with a not so big box.

so, you think i should sell the hdc3's or keep them?

neither the subs or the Audiopipe has ever been used or installed.

btw, i'm looking for mostly SPL with a little SQ for everyday street beating.

if i had to go for other subs, the only ones i would be interested in are the DC xl 12's or the SSA xcons.

the xcons mostly because for the money, i don't think you'll find any other sub with the SQL like those.

i also favor the xl's not just because they can get loud as hell, but they're also **** looking subs IMO. lol

I would try and get 4.5ft3 for the hdc12s and use the autotek amp.

Make sure the design has plenty of port area as well. I think you would enjoy the overall sound and "loudness" you get with that setup.

ok dude, i will keep the subs and try to work with them.

i was told that they would handle the power from that amp as long as the gains are set correctly.

the good thing is that i never had the chance to hear them yet so i may be in for a sweet surprise:)

just hope i will get some SQ to go with the SPL though.

thanks for your help.

Hi Mylows10

Sorry for taking long to respond to your post but I been away from the forum and been pretty busy.

So, are you a dealer for DC audio or did you meant that you would offer help with a DC build?

If you're A dealer, that would be great.

I do however would like subs that can get real low and with great SQ along with kickazz SPL as well.

That's why I was kinda focusing on a pair of DC XL or XCONS (12's or 15's) from both brands and models.

Btw, will a pair of 15's be too big for the trunk of my car?

I plan on having the subs facing the cab with rear seat folded down whenever i'm cruising with the music bumping.

If I can get at least close to the Con's and the XL's performance with the 2 hdc3's then I will just hold on to them and see how they will play out when I get everything installed.

Oh, do you have any wiring recommendations for power, ground, speaker, and stereo?

I already have Kicker big 3 kit and was thinking on going with 2 of their 1/0 kits for the Autotek,4g for the Quart, and 8g and rca's for the subs and HU.

Either those or some from Knuconceptz or Stinger.

Thanx!

Personally I'd get the 2 XL's and run them off the AutoTek they will take all 4k. Then again the HDC3's should take about 4k if your electrical is upto par are they aluminum or copper?

I'm not him but I'll answer what I can.

You'll want 6 cubes or more for 2 15" subs in a ported enclosure.

I'd go Knu for the wiring, hard to go wrong with them.

Subs forward port forward works great for some cars, not great with others. From what I've seen the majority of trunks do better with other setups... i.e. subs back, sub up, whatever.

The BEST thing you can do is a have a good box designer go over your goals with you and help you design a box that meets your expectations as far as SPL and SQ. Your box is a LOT more important than the subs you run. I'd probably stick with the AQ and see if I could get somebody to design a killer box. They are SPL oriented subs, but they can sound pretty decent at the same time.

Hello everyone.

What's up Flex?

Hey thanks for the info bro.

There's a car audio shop in Prairieville,LA. that I will check out.

The guy there happens to be a Digital Designs dealer and are familiar with the AQ subs.

He said that he'll build me a 4.5/35hz box with 4in. aeros for the hdc3's so I may go with that.

Btw, do you live in Louisiana?

I do, right in the heart of the "WhoDatNation" in the N.O.

Anyway dude, thanks for the look out.

Peace!

sorry i didn't see your reply ,but yes i am a dc dealer and rep,so i can help out with pricing on subs.the aq subs are the sister comp.of dd in which that means that they aren't as good ,but still good woofers none the less.i've never ran them personally so i really cant comment on their quality, but i have ran dd in the past ,and all i can say is they dont like really low notes and the customer service sux.if aq is anything dd i'd dump them fast.just my opinion tho.

Lol Mylowz, whassuuup?

Well actually, AQ has excellent customer service and they are very helpful giving info on their products.

Don't know about DD though.

Now as for DC, i'm still thinking on them.

It's a difficult choosing the xl's or the xcons but I don't know.

I guess whichever would sound better id what I may go for.

Either way, I will have to sell my hdc3's and the Pipe 3k to put the money towards new subs.

Now, are the xl's SQ,SQL,or SPL subs?

I see that they require small boxes and i'd say that subs that require small enclosures are either SQ or SQL oriented.

Am I correct?
