Noob Questions for wiring

My system is going to be

-1 MB Quart rwe-302 500 rms

-Kenwood ExCelon x20 rms 2 channels 520 Watts bridged @ 4 ohms

-First off, how do i hook the sub to the amp to the head? With what sized wire? I heard somewhere that i have to splice into the existing speakers, i dont think i have to. Don't i just run 1 rca wire from the head to the amp, and 1 wire from the battery to the amp, and then run the speaker wires from the amp to the sub?

-Will turning down the volume on the head turn down the volume on the sub? Or do i have to turn down the volume on the amp? (Dumbass question i know, but i don't know the answer)

-Do i need a line converter?

a line out converter is only used for some one that is running the stock head unit with that you will run an RCA from the HU to the AMP you will need a power wire around 6 to 8 gag wire to run that from battery positive to amp then speaker wire from amp to sub turning down the volume will turn down everything even the sub
