Sub re-built with a better solution to the short lead / former issue on the sample coils... ready to roll again !

First burp... HU @ 0 position on sub control.

Matched best score ever with the Monster at any time (155.3) -- best I ever did at my shop on my meter was 155.1 dB, though.

Now... HU at +3 position !

Man I am excited... 155.9 was my best before with two Nightshade 15s and four 3000s on an 18v system.

It is possible on the rings -- I will have two different rings... one for the Z v.2 gap (tight, will not fit many typical woofers) and one for the NS v.2 gap (will fit many more applications).

30 Hz is fine... broken in the Fs will be around 30 Hz on the 15" model with the stock suspension stiffness.

Here are some T/S from the 15" D1 that I built for myself with 3 Hard spiders (stock stiffness):

RE: 2.09 ohms (D1 series)

Fs: 32.16 Hz

Qes: 0.48

Qms: 12.04

Qts: 0.46

Le: 2.86 mH

Vas: 47.05 L

BL: 20.07 NA

Cms: 53.44 uM/N

Mms: 457 g

The above with a very short break-in period... Fs will drop a few more Hz when fully broken in. My FEA simulations show 27mm of linear excursion by 70% BL method + it has dual shorting rings to lower inductance related distortion. The at-rest Le is actually roughly equal to the v.1 Nightshade which had a much shorter coil.

Do you mean a 5000-watt amplifier or 5000-watts clamped power on a sine wave constantly ?

If you mean an amplifier rated for that much... the NS v.2 should do it pretty well.

We've hooked the Monster Prototype up to a wall socket for over 4 minutes with ~2300 watts RMS clamped sine wave power without cooking it -- and the NS v.2 has an improved version of the cooling from the Monster and more coil surface area (Monster = 12-layer coil but only 42mm long -- NS v.2 = 8-layer coil but 71mm long). This is similar to what a woofer will experience on a 5000-watt amp at full tilt on music program.

I don't think I have a video anywhere but I also did a 2-minute full volume run on a 4500D @ 0.5 on the Monster for a certain class at a small local organization... had my six Stinger SPV-70 batteries down pretty low after that but the sub was still fine.

I haven't had time yet but I'll do the same things with the NS v.2 as well.
