Nightshade v.2 Prototype Preview Picture

If we wanted to get really fun with it -- the top plate is tall enough to do an underhung design with around 2" P-P linear excursion //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif It would retain 95% BL for about 1" P-P

such a big motor but you only want a single spider, i almost cried. it's a spl woofer ment for several thousand watts. build for a daily beating and you want to baby it? it's like buying a corvette and driving 55mph...
We don't all beat on our equipment and do the SPL thing. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

There's something to be said for a driver that will allow you to reach the mechanical limits way before you will ever run into thermal compression. My favorite octave is from 12 to 24 so I like drivers that can stroke very far very quietly. I also like my drivers to respond to very low levels of power input and be articulate at quiet levels as well as loud levels. A driver that needs 3k to get going is completely useless to me.

In the end, my enclosures will determine the power handling and that's the way it should be for music, IMO.

Now you're speaking my language. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsupwink.gif.129404938effda6ad9cca39e7f4b58a3.gif

Let me see if I can sell some more gear and we'll talk shop when I have some green for you.

Thanks for the info, Jacob.

A Single 1-ohm 4-layer copper coil @ 25mm winding width would do it under-hung. Less than 1 mH inductance without shorting rings.

I modeled up other coils but they don't fill up enough room in the gap to have decent motor force as the gap was made for a big bad-boy 8-layer coil //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Could probably up it to 8 layers @ 25mm WW and still come out beautifully with the rings in place. 2ohm would be optimal for for me.

If I used a flattened copper winding I could probably fit a Dual-4 in there with 8-layers of copper wire @ 25mm WW to get your 2 ohm load. It is a hair too tight with round wire.

Sweet. Roughly how many pennies do I need to save for that version?
