newbie's mom is not happy

Well my wife is pissed! And it’s the forums fault. My son found an amp and subs in a local add (mvr1002, 2 jl 10w0, q, logiec box) for $200 for his 94 camaro. So next he wants a new stereo. Told him to look at some forums and ask some questions (my fault) he had $500 to spend. After looking, searching, and posting he gets a pioneer deh-p680mp stereo (sorry I mean HU) $200. Next were the speakers, after the “for only $50 more, those are good these are better,” and front speaker, and/or no back speakers (sorry rear fill), he gets a set of CDT EF61 FG for the front $200 (remember $500 budget). Next, “hey dad they say I need an amp just for the front speakers” (sorry components) profile CA600 $75 refubed. Next, need to install some sound dampening, order a roll of RAAMMAT? “No wait I need to do the doors, floor, back, and sides” 2 rolls of RAAMMAT $240 (great guy to do business with). Next he tells mom he is going to get the car ready of the RAAMMAT. O-NO she goes out to get him for dinner and there is nothing left in the car. We are now at wiring 6, 4, 2, or 1/0 gauge wire, “If you ever want to upgrade, run bigger wire.” So 2 gauge wire it is. Next decision is rca cables, speaker wire, and installation. I’m sure he will have more questions. Pics and update later

hopefully you have some time before he discovers the benefits of a "beefed up" electrical system. Goodbye stock alternator, hello Iraggi.

Its best to have good stuff at the beginning instead of shit. If he got the pos equipment he would just want to upgrade to decent stuff later and spend more, then upgrade to GOOD stuff later and spend more. Trust me;).

It's an endless money pit. It really is. I started off with an Aiwa deck, sony speakers and a pair of JL 12W0's off a Pioneer amp.

$2k later, here I am with an active front stage, a flip-out dvd player, 2 4-channel amps and a 2000w amp for my 15" sub.

My dad always shakes his head and mumbles something like "such a waste of time" whenever I am working on my car. My Mom loves it though and cranks it way louder then I do... But yes, it is a very expensive hobby. Actually, it gets much worse once you start hearing good systems...then you know how much you can improve.

yea my dad shakes his head and always say what a waste back in my day all we needed was a lil thing you plug in your cd player and it gave it 50 extra watts thats it nothing more //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
