If these have been asked many times in the past, I apologize but I was wondering if 140+db is easily feasible off the stock electrical? I have been out of the car stereo scene for going on 10 years now and was wondering about some good powered amps to look at? It just seems like everyone is recommending two or more batteries with a huge alternator. But when I had my old setup, I was running 4 12's with a PPI A1200 and a PPI A500? to my fronts and never had an issue with my battery or alternator and I ran that setup for two years.

From what I've read so far, all the high end equipment that I've known is no longer (JL, RF, PPI, etc.). When I was big into car stereo you had names like RF that produced good clean power and then you had your Pyramid, Jensen amps and such that were rated at 600 watts but were putting out low end power that sounded like crap.

So I was wondering some names to look at that were putting out good power, or underrated power like PPI's and RF's back in the day. Not stirring up the "old school vs. new school" but I just don't know new school. Thanks for the input, I'm trying to get back into the game here and just need a little help.

Yeah i think 140 should be feasible. I believe i recall a setup consisting of 2 12 DD 2512's and 1.5krms hitting a 142.xx

Important things will be knowing the limits of your stock alternator, upgrading wires to reduce resistance as much as possible. Possibly some low ESR batts as a buffer/reserve.

When power isn't possible, surface area adds the db's too. So run however much power you can SAFELY then compensate with surface area and efficiency.

I'm seeing a lot of good on the Type R's, I'm guessing this is the amp....HIFONICS BXi-1606D?? So for amp and subs new I'm looking at $400 or so roughly, that's not too bad. Thanks, I just bought a old school Punch 200 and 240 with two Punch HE 8's and two links for $120 that I'm thinking of selling on ebay and getting some new stuff. Will I get away with 4 gauge wire (left over from my old stuff) or have to go down to 2 or so?

Thanks again.

What kind of car/truck do you have?

It all depends on the size of your stock alt. My 02 protege has an 80amp alt, However I've heard of newer cars having alts as small as 40amps.

type r's are very good entry level subs; but they're pretty sloppy and leave something to be desired. A better way to go would be to look in the classifieds for a DD or DC sub, or pair of subs. DC > type rs

typically stock systems can run about 1k-1.5k watts.

I'd go with a sundown sae1200dv1 or Audioque aq1200 amp. Both are very good amps, and both put out an underrated 1200w @ 1 ohm.

the sae1200d goes for between $150-170 used. They're discontinued and were recently replaced by the sae1200dv2.

Get yourself a DC lvl 4 to go with the sae1200d, the sub is underrated at 1000w, but are known to easily take over 1500w daily. So 1200w is a safe inbetween.

If I remember correctly, the sae's are linkable, so you can always upgrade to 2 saes running 2 dc lvl 4's.

Or you can get an AQ2200 or saz1500 and get a dc lvl 4XL. the SAZ series by sundown uses upgraded components when compared to the sae. Both are quality amps, but the saz series can run daily loads down to .5 ohms (can run under .5 ohms for burps) and are built to handle much more abuse.

As far as sundown vs AQ, I believe AQ uses smarter schematics where as sundown's amps have beefier components. Personally i'd rate it as SAZ > AQ > SAE

but if your on a smaller budget and your just interested in getting loud, kicker CVR's are great subs that get loud and can handle a lot of abuse. You can find them dirt cheap on craigslist. The older models were built a little better than the newer models.

Personally, I wasn't satisfied with my type r's, and I love my dc lvl 4. the type r's defiantly out perform CVR's though.

Its a PITA to buy something then want to get something else though. If you think your going to want more, I'd go straight for the DC subs with a sundown or AQ amp. If your not sure and you want something sort of temparary, I'd find some dirt cheap older cvr's and run them on w/e amp.

you can use 4g wire for 1k watts. But bigger is always better //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Defiantly do the big 3 in 0g though. knukoncepts has some great wire. you can find some good deals in the classifieds.

Thanks for the help guys, I'm going to see what I can't find. I don't really want to admit what my DD is right now (cough cough...Kia Spectra) but I put a lot of miles on it for work and school and just looking to add some bass during the travel. But being the basshead I am, I'd rather just go decent up front but sure as hell don't want to be doing the big 3 or upgrading anything on the car as it will get replaced sometime this year and is definately not worthy of having a full blown system in it (mainly cuz of the embarrassment aspect, haha).

hah, you should see my ride //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
Big 3 is pretty simple too...
That's what I'm guessing, I did something similar in my old car years back, I don't think I did all three though. I'm just killing some time until I'm done with school here, I got laid off last year and should be done with my 4 year degree soon so once I get another job I'm thinking it'll be game on, lol.

From my research so far, I'm thinking of going with two Incriminator 12" 187 series and a HiFonics amp. Not to be "that guy" but I'm just looking for bass right now, I have ADS separates that I will reuse once I get another car for front stage. They're older but sound amazing.
