Newbie Question on Amps

Hey guys, I own a 97 F150 Standard Cab.

My set is quite simple JVC Headunit, 4 Pioneer 3 ways speakers in the doors & back panels,12 Woofers (2) & an Alpine Amp.

What I would like to do is have a second amp added ; one amp would push my four pioneers in the doors &a second amp to push the woofers.

Would the second amp would be considered a crossover amp ?

Could someone tell me is this a resonable setup ?

Or if there is a better way to go about this ?

Where did you hear the term "crossover amp"?

Do you have a low pass filter set on your subwoofer amp?

If you want to power all your speakers off of an external amp, you'll need a 4 channel with a high pass filter. Most 4 channel amps should have high pass filters on them...

Does your head unit have any crossovers in it?

Okay, sorry I think I used the wrong terminology.

I would like a dedicated amp to my 12 " woofers, then a second amp dedicated to my door speakers & back quarter speakers.

Does both amps need to be 4 channel amps ?

No the do not both need to be 4 channel amps. You can hook up 2 subs to a mono, 2 channel, 4 channel etc, you just need to wire them right. Someone else will need to help you out there, I am still a noob.
