Newbie question.. amp/sub compatibility..

Hey.. I'm completely new to car audio, but wanted to get a cheap system that bumps fairly hard. I already have a Panasonic head unit in, as well as Eclipse/Focal speakers.. so now I just need to get an amp and some subs.

I was looking at Sony Xplod, since it seems like they do some decent damage for a pretty low cost. Money -is- an issue for me. But I had a couple questions about compatibility.. I wasn't sure how it worked. Can a mono amplifier power 2 subs in a box?

The amp I was looking as is this:

http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-Po461aXQ7RR/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=3&g=130&I=158XMD1000&o=m&a=0&cc=01&avf=N

500 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms

900 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms

1600 watts peak power

And then I was thinking of getting 2 of these subs..

http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-Po461aXQ7RR/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=10&g=520&I=158L121P5&o=m&a=0&cc=01&avf=N

power range 90-350 watts RMS

peak power handling 1200 watts

Honestly, I have no idea if that stuff will even work together. I know mono is only one channel, but I figured it may be able to power two subs, I don't know.. and do the power ratings match up okay? The ohmage?

Thanks.. any info would really be appreciated.

Also.. out of curiosity.. would these sound decent, or does Xplod ****? lol.

and yes mono amps are usually used for subwoofer systems
Does that mean the mono amp could power two subs?

With the amp, the two subs, and a bandpass enclosure.. going through ebay.. I'd get it all for around $400, including shipping.

yes a mono amp can power as many subs as u want wired together. so buying all that stuff for 400, would basically be the same as taking ur money and flushing it down the toilet.

Wow.. are we a bunch of elitest bastards here, or what?

I know Sony stuff is considered low-end.. but Jesus, I thought I made it clear that I was going for a bargain setup. I don't need anything competition-level.. it just needs to bump. And when I listened to an Xplod sub/amp combo at Best Buy, it did. It even sounded better than some of the more expensive shit that was right next to it.

So I fail to see how $400 is flushing my money away. I know I asked for opinions about it, but if you think it's such a waste of money, you could recommend me a different setup that I can get for the same amount of money that will sound better, and hit harder. That would actually be helping me..

LMAO, you tell 'em... j/k

for 400 dollars u will not only get a bargain setup but u will get a very nice sounding/hard hitting system. U have a nice deck and nice speakers so why put sony crap in there.

u can pick up 2 12" ED K's that would be 240 bucks. and leave u with 160 for a 600 watt amp. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3068168411&category=18796 and there ya go. that will give u 300 watts per channel at 4 ohms. so ud get the DVC 4 ohm ones and wire em up to 4 ohm load.

With that setup u will blow out any sony crap out the water.

edit - i noticed the 10's are 125 a piece and the 12's are 135 a peice, so after shipping for the amp and subs ud probly be spending about 450. tthen ull need another 50 bucks for a supplies to build a box and a wiring kit. Any wiring kit from walmart or ebay will be perfect.

http://www.edesignaudio.com for the subs.

1) My head unit is Panasonic, not Pioneer-- just edited my first post. I dunno what I was thinking when I typed that.. I guess I wasn't thinking at all and just slipped up. lol. Oops.

2) Thanks man.. sorry about the name calling. I could go a bit over my budget.. $500 is probably the very most I could spend though, including all supplies and shipping. I'm gonna look into what you recommended.
