Newbie needs sub selection help

I have been out of the audio scene for about 5 years and wow has everthing changed. I recently purchased a chrysler 200 limited with the upgraded boston acoustic sound system. I am looking to add a sub to this setup but I am really confused. I listed to rap and heavy rock. A sealed enclosure is really my preferance mainly due to trunk space (I have 2 young kids so on the weekends I need to jam the strollers and such back there.)

I want a nice daily driver, SQ/SPL sub that sounds great when I have the fam but hits hard when I go out with the boys and wanna crank it up. I was leaning toward 1 12" in a 1.0 ft sealed box around 400-600 watts rms.

I am open to all suggestions and looking for the best bang for the buck (around $200-$250 max for the sub)

As a side note I can get really good deals on alpine amps mrx-m50 and pdx-m6 so I am considering using these. I have an old alpine mrd-m1001 that I am probably going to sell as it takes up more space than I want to give up.

i heard a 12in l7 would sound great in a sealed box but i wouldnt know in my own expirience, i dont really like sealed you use more rms to push the sub

They dont sound good in any box... OP look into Fi, SSA, TC and Ill think of some more...

well try a pioneer sub .8 i beleive if its sealed i 2 of have them in a poor ported enclosure and they pound soon to upgrade my enclosure

they are the pioneer premiers championship pro series about 140 a piece 1000rms though but well worth it.

Which Pioneer? I doubt it is a very good SQ sub either...

for that price, i would suggest :

ssa icon

fi q

AQ HDC3

although with only 1 ft3 of space.. i would probably go with a 10, as they will like 1ft of space more than a 12 would

thanks for the response guys. Im going to research the ones suggested esp the ssa icon. I was liking what I was hearing about the sundown sa-12 but now im hearing 600 watts is too low even though thats what they are rated and many say not to use in a sealed enclosure.

yea... the sa-12 on 600 rms, and 1 cubed, would be a waste, imo... the icon is a great sub

the icon is a very nice sub...

600 should push it pretty nicely...

and a 10 would prolly be optimal for your enclosure size

sorry dont have any specific dimensions in mind. just kind of trying to make the point I can go slightly larger than 1.0 if it means better SQ and sub selection

well... when your talking about something as small as 1ft cubed.... displacement will mean alot... cuz it could rob you of 1/4 of you airspace.... thats why i'm wondering dimensions
