Good morning,

I'd like to add a sub amp to my son's 1999 eclipse. I've never installed a amp before and need some help from the experts.. The shop that installed the speaker amp is out of business sad to say. This is what I know:

1pr. jbl 6x9 coax in the back and 6.5 coax in the front.

1 Memphis 12" sub. 200 watt max. I'm assuming it's 4ohm

1 powerbass 4 channel 800 watt amp. somehow he was able to run everything off this amp.

The panasonic hu died and picked up a pioneer DEH-P7000BT off e-bay which I want to install at the same time I install the sub amp.

stock battery and alt.

I guess the first question is what kind of sub amp should I get class AB class D?

I've seen some 250watt amps on the classifieds here but have no idea what to look for. I'd consider new also if I keep it under 125-150.00.

Im not looking to add another sub.

I've read some posts in this forum and know I need a amp kit. Some one posted this site. which kit would I need to buy? Im not sure what gauge wire I need and is it better to buy a kit or just buy things seperate?

http://www.knukonceptz.com/productMaster.cfm?Category=Amp%20Installation%20Kits#

I also read I might need a fuse distribution block. which one would you guy's recommend?

http://www.knukonceptz.com/productMaster.cfm?Category=Distribution%20/%20Fuse%20Blocks

Would the stock battery and alt handle adding a sub amp on first of all?

Do I need new battery terminals?

It's ok to run a wire from the remote wire of the first amp to the new one seeing that one is already hooked into the ignition?

Im kind of lost on the fuse thing. Do I cut the power wire from the battery and fuse it if so is it better to fuse it as close to the battery terminal or does it not matter.

What type of fuse?

Do you ground the amp as close to the amp as possible and is it ok to use the same ground point as the amp thats already installed?

I know I need a dmm never used one before but I'll research out how to use the darn thing.

any other help or recommendations would be appreciated also.

I know the post is long with a lot of questions but I like to know what I'm getting into and have all the information before I start a project. The worse thing is saying **** I need to run to get a part come back and find I need to run out again to get another part lol.

Thanks in advance and happy turkey day.

In my opinion, you would probably be better off selling the four channel amp, and buying a decent 5 channel. This would allow you to use the existing wiring for the amp that is already installed and would save you some trouble and space in the car. And most 5 channel amps have on board fusing. You would simply move the wiring to the new amp and run new speaker wiring from the amp to the sub.

Below are a few sites to check for a 5 channel, look for one with about 100wattsx4 for the mids and highs and 200-300wattx1@4ohms for the sub. There is a five channel Hifonics Zeus in the classifieds for sale now and Oldschoolforme on this site also has a 5 channel for sale.

Lot of choices, on a budget, id go with a Infinity or MBQuart. They make good power and have good sound quality. Should end up with a good sound and youll get some cash back when you sell the four channel you already have.

This amp kit

I also read I might need a fuse distribution block. which one would you guy's recommend?

your only running one amp you wont need one

Would the stock battery and alt handle adding a sub amp on first of all?

You'll be fine you wont be running much power

Do I need new battery terminals?

No

It's ok to run a wire from the remote wire of the first amp to the new one seeing that one is already hooked into the ignition?

Yes

Im kind of lost on the fuse thing. Do I cut the power wire from the battery and fuse it if so is it better to fuse it as close to the battery terminal or does it not matter.

Keep the fuse as close to the battery as possible atlest within 18"

What type of fuse?

That amp kit comes with a 120 amp fuse

Do you ground the amp as close to the amp as possible and is it ok to use the same ground point as the amp thats already installed?

The closer the better and yes

I know I need a dmm never used one before but I'll research out how to use the darn thing.

I reccomend a 4 channel to run the comps up front then bridge the other channels for the sub, just browse the classafieds and you can find a good deal.

This might be a stupid question but it's always good to laugh before a holiday. I checked the jbl website The front and rear speakers run at 2 ohm's. Does that mean the fronts and rears run at 4 ohm each channel. the sub running the same as the sub also runs off this 4 channel? or am i running at 2 ohm's, it's a bit confussing.

Im looking at a Zeus ZXi 8008 740-Watts A/B-Class.

4 x 110-Watts + 300-Watts x 1-ch RMS @ 2-Ohms

4 x 55-Watts + 200-Watts x 1-ch RMS @ 4-Ohms

If I am running at 4ohm's is 55 watts loud enough The 200 watts the amp produces is the max for the sub, that I do know and just for my own curiosity how would I get it to run at 2 ohm's.

Thanks

The JBL's will be getting 110watts each if they are 2 ohm, and the sub will be getting 200watts if it is 4 ohm. If the sub is single voice coil its ohms cant be varied. They will all work with this amp just fine, the output of the amp will just vary depending on the ohm rating of the speaker. The amp has gain/level and crossover adjustments, so it would be easy to tune to your taste.

This is what I've found so far. It seems the hifonics and mb quart are made by the same company. The hifonics and powerbass which I have now is the least expensive around around 160.00 the others are around 225.00

which ones do you like

Thanks

On the budget your working with, and out of the ones listed, id would go with the hifonics. Ive run their amps with good results, the powerbass looks good also, but i cant comment on it because i dont have any experience with powerbass products. Also, i know the MBquart is a little more expensive, but i really think they are worth a little extra because of the sound quality.
