newbie needs help!

I'm confusing myself guys so I need your help. I've got a 4 channel amp that I want to ONLY run my front Alpine type R components off of. The amp has a rating of 40watts x 4 or I can run it bridged 100watts x 2. So If I run it parallel...do I get 80watts x 2? Or, Should I just bridge it and run the 100watts x 2? The speakers max rms is 100watts...should I push it that much or is that a number the manufacturer picks as a "safe number?"
