Newbie help please- what speakers do i need?

Hi!

I recently bought a Sony CDX-GT111 which has a power raing of 4x45W. What speakers does this mean I can buy without requiring an amp?

Have been looking on ebay and most speakers seem to be rated at higher values than 45W. They need to be 5.25" really to fit with my current car setup as I don't want to mess too much with the door trims.

Well the unit will actually only put out about 12-17 watts rms.If your not to picky on brand then get one with a higher SPL rating IE 90-94 DB 1W/1M.Meaning it will take less wattage to get the speaker moving then a lower DB rating.Hope this helps......

Translation for noobs:

When you look at the data for the speakers, there should be a specification referred to as Sensitivity. Try to get one with a 90 or better DB sensitivity.

The 1 watt at 1 meter only is true sensitivity at a 2 ohm load speaker. If you find a speaker with 93 or better sensitivity at 4 ohms, it really is only 90 or better, so basically, subtract 3 DB's of sensitivity if you are buying 4 ohm.

And get Alpine Type-S, they are perfect for your setup and power requirements. And I'd be willing to bet that that amp will make 30 RMS at best. Sony isn't the greatest at telling true RMS. They aren't as bad as Lanzar or Pyle stuff though.

go to a shop. listen to some speakers, point at one you like and say "oooo i want that one" then get it.
