Newb seeking Advice

Hello,

I wish there was a beginners forum but here it goes. I have a Nissan frontier and would like to have some bass in it. Due to limited space what would be a good setup? I'm thinking of 1 15inch sub, but I really don't want to add extra capacitors or batteries, plus I want to keep my stock radio. For what I've reasearched so far ive been looking at sundown 2000d amp with 1 of their 15" rated at 1250rms, or 1 12"sub Mass effect with the sundown 3000d amp. I want it to be loud enough and would prefer to have more power that what I need rather than less, but, would my stock electrical system be sufficient? I don't want dimming headlights and such. Any advice and recommendation is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Side note, from listening to friends systems I like lower base from 15" than punchy 12".

15" sub won't necessarily play lower than a 12" 10" or even an 8"sub, enclosure size and design has more to do with how low the sub can go.

Pair of 10's in custom enclosure is your best bet, Amazon.com : ASC Package Nissan Frontier 05-12 Crew Cab Truck Dual 10" Kicker C10 Subwoofer Sub Box Enclosure 600 Watts Peak : Car Electronics

500 watts will be enough to rattle the pennies in your ashtray AND impress your friends.

I'm betting the 15" sub that you heard was in a ported enclosure and the 12" was in sealed enclosure, that would explain why it sounded punchy.

I have 2 - 12's in a sealed enclosure and with 500 watts RMS it has plenty of BOOM BOOM.

1250 watts will require 91 amps, 2000 watts will require 145 amps and a 3000 watt amp will require 290 amps.

750 watt amplifier will consume 54 amps with 13.8 volt source and the 500 watt amps draws 36 amps.

Your stock charging system should be good enough to supply the amplifier with the required 54 amps needed to produce 750 watts with a 13.8 volt source at the most but would probably be much happier with a 500 watt amplifier and a steady diet of 36 amps..

Thanks for the reply, I got some guidance of what I need. About the 12 vs 15 from my friends, you're right, the 15's where in a double ported box and the 12's were in single sealed boxes. So I guess the box makes a difference. Ok what do you think about these, on a factory radio? Thanks

And a 250 amp alternator with 0g big 3, new battery also or not needed?

You are going about this all sorts of wrong man. It takes power to make power, If you dont have the electrical system to back it up, you have no right running more than 1500 watts to your system.

If you buy a premade box, you will have just turned your 500-1000 dollar investment into garbage.

Go custom ported to get low bass. Space makes bass, if you have no room and cram subs in small boxes, you will get next to no bass from your system. Even 8s in a properly tuned ported box with enough space can play lower than a 15/18 in a crammed box.

edit: saw your plans for an alt, thats a good start along with an agm battery under the hood with big 3 upgrade should support up to 3k.

Hit up singer, dc power, mechman, ohio generator, excessive amperage for high outputs, stay away from ebay. For agm battery, sears diehard platinum, xs power, kinetik, deka(autozone, o reilly, and sam's club agms)

The amp is 2x too big, 300 watt rms max for a pair of kicker c10's..

Optimum enclosure size for a pair of C10's is 3.4 cubic feet for a sealed enclosure and 3 cubic feet for a ported, I seriously doubt that premade enclosure will even meet the minimum dimensions for a pair of C10's which would be 2 cubic feet for sealed and 2.5 cubic feet for ported..

If you have the stock head unit then think small so you don't end up with a system that is extremely out of balance and bass heavy..

Here's an idea, buy the prefab enclosure without the subs if you can find it, determine how many cubic feet the enclosure has and choose a single subwoofer that is designed to work with that amount of space, seal up one of the speaker holes in the enclosure and install the single subwoofer, if the enclosure is slightly too big for the subwoofer you can add some polyfill to compensate for the extra space but make sure the enclosure is not too small, nothing you can do will compensate for a subwoofer that is too large for the intended enclosure..

A 500 watt RMS subwoofer and matching Class D amplifier will serve you well, the amplifier doesn't need to be a monoblock, you can always choose a smallish two channel amplifier and bridge the two channels together to make a single more powerful channel, the Nissan Frontier has a pretty small cockpit and the subwoofer will be directly behind and below you so think small and don't overpower the highs and mids..

You want the music to sound natural and balanced, unless you live in the ghetto and listen to nothing but bass tracks..

Dafuq? You can't be serious about wasting money on a lame prefab and using half of it. Smh.

I don't care for a prefab either but the OP has a nissan frontier, there's only one enclosure design that fits his truck, he doesn't have any other options, not if he wants to keep his back seat..

Besides, he's already made up his mind and wants the prefab, I think the best we can do is just make it work for him..

I can hook him up with one that will work. Just think it would be a waste of money. And poly fill actually adds to net airspace man.
