new years here.. Whos gonna order the new xxx

thx for proving my point. RE cares way more about the dealer than you //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif.

Why? Because they want to move to more of a dealer network, and won't undercut said dealer network by selling direct to someone with a dealer in their area? Why shouldn't they care more about the dealer? You're not selling their products, increasing their profits on a larger scale. The dealer is.

I called RE cause I wanted a pair of 12" xxx's

much to my surprise they dont sell directly(or to me they didnt)

and they gave me some dealer who was 100 miles away from me...They were not that helpful and slightly rude to boot.

Needless to say I bought TDX's instead and I didnt have to leave my house to get them

screw RE

A dealer JUST popped up in our neighborhood....
And It sucks I cant get direct, I called yesterday.

Blake
Blake please tell me you're kidding. I don't want an RE dealer in our town. I was hoping to be the first (or one of the first) to get RE in T-Town/County. That pisses me off....

if you want their subs, buy them.

don't question their ethics, timing and/or management; especially over products which havent come out yet.

With all the business sense floating around here, Im surprised we don't have more CEO's around here. Okay, of all you arm chair CEO's.... how many own or are running a successful start-up business and brought it into a success size such as RE (or bigger)? That's what I thought...

And Feandil, as much as I respect your opinion, you really aren't doing any good talking down RE products we know so little about at this point. Sure, Ive seen your extrapolated equations and your figures, I know where you are coming from. But for a guy supposedly starting/working for a competing start-up business, this just looks like sour grapes. Let RE come out with their product, you come out with yours. If yours is so truely superior as you seem to be implying, the results of user testing will go MUCH further than these posts where you speculate to high-heaven. No offense, just food for thought.

it has nothing to do with that... I have no "sourness" towards RE

I don't see why I can't guess as to the efficency of it?

I mean splite coil means weight from the longer coils longer former + that much excursion means even longer coils + more weight

their cones and surrounds used to be around 100g's.... so IMO minimum of 300g for that design

and that's with a weak VC that you'd never see that excursion even in sealed cause of thermal power handling

I'm sry if I came off as RE bashing... that wasn't my motivation

but remember the old 12" XXX was around 250g Mms... just a starting place for this guys //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I don't really even mess with implying anything about anything I'm doing... however I'm just pointing out RE's design from how I see it

even with a super light 20g or so cone (this would make the motor very unbalanced I still don't see them getting above 85db/w or so and since nobody has any Mms figures all I can do is speculate

I've said it many times and I'll say it again... I have no beef with RE or anything they've made or are making... but that doesn't mean I can't like anyone else comment on the design

I feel you're downing their products a lot more than "speculating." Just an observation from the outside pertaining to your tone in nearly every post I've read where you've commented on the new RE lines.

To be completely honest with you, and only to provoke thought, I will probably not look too heavily into your products when they come out simply for this attitude. Now, I'm not an RE bandwagon member, in all likely hood I won't be purchasing any of their products in the near future, but please let them come out with the products before you bash them anymore.

The only thing we KNOW about these subs is that the mounting depth is ridiculous...everything else is speculation. You can use all the formulas you want, and may indeed be correct, but until there can be some proof by way of user testing and actual specs, I would reccomend cooling your riducule.

Didn't mean to sound like I thought you are necessarily bashing RE Feandil (and that's your right even if that's your intention), just saying the speculation should only go so far at this point, and shouldn't be used a gauge against your up-coming product(s).

that's certainly your choice as a consumer.... I'm sry you feel this way

I think the new XXX will be terrible and useless.... and all that's going to happen is more money for the speaker

I don't think I've ever actually bashed anything they've done unless you count that prior sentence //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

in fact they could be very smart building this speaker... seems if their MSRP is around the $650 pricetag for online I think they would sell a lot of both the Mx's and XXX's

just to put this into perspective... 50mm one way at 90db/w 12" sub in 2.5 cubes sealed you'll need something like 5000 watts to get it even close to Xmax within anything above 20hz (there's only a handful of any songs even approaching 20hz)

you can tell a lot from the efficency figures... and unless RE did something that changes audio forever and their Mms is

as an example of what it takes to make that kind of excursion as far as weight look at the SS RLS 12" and it's 80db/w efficent... it has about half the copper in the VC as the RE XXX MUST have (and I say MUST because this is what that kind of excursion and split coil MEANS)

I predict 450-500g for their Mms... as IIRC they're using the old XXX's cones etc

If you don't understand how I came to this conclusion I will stop talking about it

I don't want that either... and I think that accidently happened with a off hand mention by me... but as it stands I think this thread is back on topic...

I don't mind sharing a bit of knowledge that just kind of pops out at me

I really really don't try to speculate on anything that I don't already have prior knowledge of

but a copper coil that's at least 5" long with any signifcant BL (you can only get so much flux with the motor size RE is using on the regular XXX with Ceramics)can only be so light without a lot of VC layers meaning far more weight...

if you go with a smaller gauge copper the problem then becomes power handling

I don't see a way to design a speaker with split coil that can have enough power handling without a huge sacrifice in efficency

it's a pretty linear relationship in that respect...

you start adding excursion, you add longer coils, you start needing more power to reach that excursion, and you add beefier gauge coils... all of the only turns into increasing MMs
