New system.....

I have a 1993 Honda Civic Hatchback. I have been debating on which sub and amp i should get. I think I am going to get the Alpine TYPE R SWR-1242D 12" Dual 4 Ohm. just one. What amp should I get to power this? Also, What box would be good for my car?

in my opinion if your gonna go with just one sub, id go with something bigger, maybe a 15" if your gonna get just one, an l7 maybe? or an rd audio sub, re, or fi would be a nice way to go.. any of em will pound hard in your civic

I disagree with the L7 recommendation unless the OP is looking for that one note wonder "ricer" style bass. I have yet to be impressed with any square subwoofer from Kicker. I find them to be muddy and horribly inaccurate, unless you like loose, muddy, bass.

Other subs I would recommend looking into if you want "loud" would be Audio Que or Digital Designs. If you want something that sounds good, the RE SE wouldn't be a bad choice either.

yea it was just an idea because an l7 isnt that bad of a price, you can get one for 200-250

Good for you bigbangtheory. How many recent Solo-baric subwoofers have you owned? I have owned both the 12" L5 and L7 and in my opinion they are the worst pile of dogshіt to ever wear the Kicker badge.

In fact, I am still waiting on the buyer of my L5 to come and pick it up but he is at WMC in Miami right now. Regardless, I tried this subwoofer in two different vehicles with three different enclosures before I came to the conclusion that it sucked. Don't get me wrong, it is loud but far from accurate!

It is the bass that I have come to associate with import cars that have all kinds of crap to make them look fast on an otherwise stock car. One of the local car audio shops makes a killing out of selling pre-fab box Kicker L5 and L7 subs to the local ricer community, hence the reason I dubbed them "Ricer Bass". Why? Because chances are the Civic jamming next to me at the stop light has a Solo-baric L series subwoofer in it and feels compelled to subject those around him to bad poetry with a lot of bass!

Then again, if all one listens to is Jeezey, Gorilla Zoe, Lil Wayne, Lil Jon, or hip-hop/cRap only.... The L7 will be perfectly fine.

i have had two 06L7s and an 08 L7, all 12in, and they didnt sound no worse than anybody elses systems around here. granted there is better out there but you making it seem like they are the worst thing ever made. i guess its personal opinion and the install. not saying you dont know how to install gunz.

They aren't that bad, just geared more towards SPL than SQ. As I've aged, getting loud has bored me because that has always been easy. Now I am more into SQ.

The other issue with me is that I listen to a wide variety of music. Just to give you an example, I could be listening to Nine Inch Nails, Tool, Pink Floyd, John Coltrane, Tchaikovsky, or Chase & Status, depending on my mood.

i see what you mean. around here nobody has any SQ systems. its all bestbuy, and circuit city stuff. thats why i said it didnt sound any worse then the rest haha.

I start by saying he should look at Audio Que AQ1200d or the Hifonics BXi 1608d. That will be enough power for one 12" sub and allow him to upgrade later when he is craving more bass.
