New System Suggestions

I'm not exactly sure where to put this post, as it relates to just about every thread on this lovely forum, so I guess this will have to do. First off, hello! I'm a n00b! My name is Byron, I reside in Memphis, TN, slave at the FedEX megahub, and enjoy long walks on the beach at night...uhh...yeah...anyway. Now that my lame introduction is over...

I have finally decided to transform the Black ***** into a show car. My plan is to do a 2-seater conversion, custom box in the trunk, and an entire re-vamp of my audio/video equipment. Tossing out my current motorized dash for a new motorized touch screen (in sexy black no doubt), upgrading my car computer, new sub-woofers, new speakers and finally buy me some god **** tweeters.

So I need your ideas. Money is somewhat an obstacle. Trying to get prices on everything that's out there. I don't want to spend like $1000 on just a custom box, but I may be spending total around $1000. I currently have a 600w Concept Amp and 800w Kenwood Amp. I'm not sure if I'm going to replace them or not. Getting rid of the stock speakers, as I've been meaning to do for SO SO long.

The car in question is a 1997 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4. Trunk space is quite limited in this hatchback as you can see:

I will have a guy custom make me a sub box that will pretty much replace my trunk space. He has a Dodge Stealth which is the same car minus the body, so it'll fit exactly as it should, so I don't have much to worry about there, people have always loved his kits. But anyway, I need suggestions on:

Subs (10s? 12? Don't think I have room for a 15)

Amplifier (Should I stick with what I have? 800w Kenwood and 600w Concept)

6x9 Rear Speakers (Coaxial? Component? What's the difference)

6 1/2 Front Speakers (Same Question, Along with do I need to get a 4-Channel Amp for these speakers)

Tweeters (I've been riding around with no tweeters forever...)

So lay it on me guys. What brands should I go with. If possible, I'd like to have everything be of one brand, instead of mixing brands. But I'm not sure what most of you do as far as whats good and what's not.

Thanks in advance! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

do u want something to show sp or sq? if it were me.. i would look into these subs:

http://www.etronics.com/product.asp?stk_code=sout212&store=&catid=369

soundstream t2 subs(designed for ported boxes of good maginitude.. i recently heard one of these subs in a nicely tuned box and a single 12 hit around 140... pretty tight sounding too considering it was in a ported box): and for $180 each after shipping u cant beat it(360 so far) these subs had a big excursion too by the way.. something i have only seen on an eclipse titanium(which moves a lot)

and as for an amp.. that concept and kenwood will not have enough juice to power these subs.. yer gonna need a 1 ohm stable amp at least.. to power these subs.. so here is a recommendation:

autotek xs-1600x (800 rms to each sub and will push out the power when needed) very efficient amp.. autotek is a great company.. and i believe a step higher than the hifonics line... very low clipping rate, very good efficiency, subsonic filter, again.. HIGHLY recommended : $380 free shipping:

http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=13940

thats a total of $740.. which leaves ya $260 for speakers and 4 channel amp

speakers: if u can...

mb quart component set(good sounding for the price of this set): http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=13542 $150 free shipping

amp for speakers: autotek sx-280 very clean sounding amp... good power $130 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=13918

now.. if u needed a headunit and a box with this $$ then i overdid it... but if u want the components for a good setup for $1000 this would be my choice...(if i already had the wires, headunit and sub box anyways)... and u could replace the rear 6x9s at a later date when u get extra cash and run them off of the head unit

I appreciate the suggestions so far, and welcome them to continue. I am somewhat new to the audio portion of modifications, so I guess you'll have to bear with me. I would like to have like to have something that is streetable and doesn't shatter glass or rattle walls. Not trying to get THAT far into it, I would like for the "treble" if you will to be clean and clear. I don't think I want competition style subs because like I said, I would want something that I can bang on the street like I do now with my current setup.

I listen mainly to Rap/Hip Hop and Trance with some Rock and R&B every now and then. I'd like for each genre to sound great through my system. So I guess just continue what you guys are doing with the suggestions, I have to roll out now, but I will leave you with a video of the current components I have now. The way I had everything in that video was just a quick test setup to test everything out, its not how it is now! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
