Okay this is my situation. Right now i'm running a single 12 inch type R in a pre fab ported box..It gets low really nice but the highs suckkk. It's being pushed by a kenwood 9102d amp (shitty and its got 8 gauge wire so its even worse:blackeye: ) but anyways i've found someone to sell the box sub and amp combo for 400 which is good for me. So i've got 400 and possibly 200 out of christmas money. The current car is an accord but i'm moving into a jeep grand cherokee so there wont be rattle like the accord. I don't need super amounts of bass. i want maybe double the type r or a little less. I'm about to buy the hifonics 1606d because i like the look and the power would be good for 2 12s or 1 good 12. Would that amp and a 12 alpine type x in a sealed box be good for SQ and also get good sounding thump were you can feel it?

subs aren't supposed to play highs. prefab ported boxes **** ***.

get in one the group buy on si mags. imo the x is a waste of money. you would like that r better if you'd get a ported box made to specs and up to at least 4 gauge.

I can get a new type x for 170 so i think its a good deal

i mean the higher bass notes. i know that subs dont play high

my question is basically this..i dont feel like trying to build a ported box and screwing it up. so will a type x get louder sealed than a type r in my shitty box and amp.

a type x will get louder, but a type r in a proper ported enclosure will be pretty close to a type x sealed. a 2nd type r in a proper box will outdo the type x and be around the same money.

try building your own box, make it fairly small, not sure what they recommend for a type R in a sealed enclosure, but build one on the smallish side of recommended. In addition what speakers are you running upfront. The punchy bass your looking is based on your midbass drivers too!

I'm about to get a Jeep Grand Cherokee that has stock infinity gold speakers. I think i'm gonna go with a 1.2 cube box from crutchfield because if i don't like it they'll still let me return it. I tried a sealed box for the type r exactly as specs recomended but it sucked, it didn't have enough bass at all.

i have 2 in .925/sub and bounce quarters off the roof.

GOD!!!

all of these people with inacurate info...the only a few know what they are talking about here

Here is how it will break down,

In Loudness-The Type R will get louder, but the X will get lower and sound better.

Box requirements-Type R DOESNT LIKE A SEALED BOX, Type X preforms equally well in sealed and ported applications.

High end extention-The R will walk all over the X up in this range, but this is why you have an adequate Mid-bass setup.

Low end extention-This is where the X shines, it gets low, and does it with authority, IT WILL WALK ALL OVER THE R down low.

Overall-The X is welll worth the money, it is a great SQ sub. and personally I would take it over a Type R any day of the week.

(and BTW...I have worked with both the Type X and the Type R extensivly in both sealed and ported applications)
