New System Install -- Some of your thoughts

I am now on my second system. The first one I got was crap and I paid WAYYY

too much. It was a JLW3 in a sealed box with a RF250 Watt mono and a phoenix gold line driver. NOOO bang at all. I am replacing it with 2 Kicker 12" L7's (waiting for them to arrive) powered by a RF 550S for each one (I got a good deal on them) . They are going to be in a sealed enclosure. I bought everything and I am waiting for it to come. I have a couple of questions. Can this break my rear window if cranked all the way up after being broken in?( I have a 97 Jetta). Also, what would be the best amps to power these? My ultimate plan is to have a custom ported enclosure built to take up the whole trunk with 4-6 L7's and whatever it takes to run them. Sooooo, if that is my goal, I am going to have to do it bit by bit.... So I might as well buy right.

Also, I have 2 MB Quartz 6.5's in the front and the same in the rear. They are rated for 100 Watts apiece. What is a good amp to run these, and where would I want to mount the amp to run all 4?

I suppose I will get a new head unit eventually because the Clarion I have is not fadable. I had to put a line driver on the W3 cause if I turned the base up on the HU, the Quartz would cut off. I basically think that the knuckle heads at Speed of Sound in Butler, PA flubbed the install. I took it back twice and they still could not diagnose the problem... So I put the line driver on and turned the bass all of the way down on the HU....

The ultimate goal is to play a lil' Slipknot or Mudvayne for all the old ladies in church on Sunday morning--- I'm trying to drown out the organ

1. There is no chance that setup will break your back window.

2. If the "old ladies in church on sunday morning" dont have the right to listen to their organ, why should you have the right to ignorantly blast your slipknot? Come on. Lets try to get a positive outlook on our hobby from the public, not tarnish it any further.

(gets down off soap box)

One more thing... As it is, do I need anything additional? Cap, battery, alternator, anything like that, or should it do fine if properly installed?

to power the speakers go with something that puts out like 60x2 at 4 ohms. Or anything above that. Profile is good and cheap, as well as us acoustics.

For the L7's id say the phoenix gold tantrum 1200.1 would power them perfect. it will put out 1400+ watts at 1-4 ohms. perfect for l7's..check ebay for the amp. should be about $319 plus shipping.

with the amount of power ull be running yeah a new alternator would be needed eventually

Awwwwww.... about how much will that rack me???? Are there any places better than others to find them at a decent price? Not exactly my ideal purchase, but a dead car does me no good...

I don't see how you will have the room for 4-6 L7's, the box, and the amps. So I take it you are just going for SPL? If that was the cast you should have just got 2 15" L7's and got 2 JBL 1200.1's and put them in a ported box. Yes later you will have to upgrade your alt, wires, get another battery, and some sound deadener. I guess you live and you learn, good luck.

The Trunk of a 97 Jetta is quite spacious. Also, the amps can run from the back seat to the trunk. I have no doubt that 4 12's can fit in the trunk in a custom ported box -- annnnd, if it won't work, %(@# it!!!!

that sounds like it could be a real kick a$$ install IF done right! 4 12"L7's with about 1000W to each. ****!! but you will need something to help the power....you might be able to get away with just upgrading the battery to a yellow top, but i would just adding another of the same when you get some xtra cash. keep up the good work, and good luck
