ok, so i jus hooked up my new shit, my amp is a 1800(900rms) kenwood (KAC-9104D) >900w at 1ohm, 900w at 2ohms, and 500w at 4ohms(I know, cheezy amp), and my sub is a 15" L7 2 ohm voice coils, brand new, i hooked everthing up, im running it at two ohms now, i tried 1 ohms, but it jus goes into protect after like ten seconds if i even try to bump jus a lil hard, so then i tried 4 ohms, and it does the same thing(im clueless as to why it would do this at 4ohms considering the 400w power decrease?), so then i jus ran each coil to each terminal on the amp, like it says in the manual for a 2ohm DVC, and it started the whole go into protect act again, so i took a break for about 15 min, came bak and turned it up, and all of a sudden it was lettin it get pretty loud without goin into protect, but eventually if i turn it up more it does go into protect. now wat ive heard since i connected it is jus not the bass i expected, im my head i woulda thought this sub would jus hit harder, especially at full power, my friend has the same model amp hooked to a DD audio 9515 and it hits pretty nasty, way louder than mine. Please help me, am i doin something wrong? another thing, the sub seem only be putting out the lower frequences and no highs, it will pound that song "money in the bank" pretty hard, but when i play a song like "millie" with higher frequency bass, its like the sub shuts off, it goes dead silent, and i kno its not in protect because as soon as a lower note comes up, it pounds it right away, now i remember something off the kicker website saying something about the solo barics having dedicated low frequency responce, but ****. again, please help me?

ok, the amp is used, i got it off of ebay from a store called dealtree, out of like ten used ones i saw from there it was the best lookin one, it looks like its almost brand new, or barely used, no scratches, scuffs or anything, the sub is brand new from crutchfield and is in a 4 cu. ft. slotted box, tuned at 38hz. the system is in a 2006 saturn ion, everything stock, the cables that come off the battery( which is located in the trunk next to the spair, pretty convenient) that run to the amp are 4gauge power acoustic cable, the power cable has an 80amp maxi fuse inline aswell, and all the speaker wire is like some special made cable made by mega cable, i got it at radio shack, like 20 bucks for a 30ft roll, it doesnt specify gauge on the roll, it says gauge doesnt matter with this cable, but it look like its about 14 or 12 gauge wire. i put sub in the car last night, with the box it barely fits in the trunk, i had to force it in there, but the sub is facing towards the front. i hooked the amp up this morning as soon as i got it in from ups, i always put some sort of terminals or easy connects on all the ends of speaker and power cable as i did this time. my stereo is a Dual XDVD-8183, output voltage 2v, one thing im not sure about is it only has one rca output to the amp, so i put a splitter that way i could plug into both inputs( left & right) on the amp, jus let me kno if u need to kno more

wait a minute you said it had only one rca out? or one set? meaning a left and right.? ya dual's manual sucks.. here's wat i'd like u to do. if you can test the amp outside the car hook it up to an alternative power source and try it out.

ok, ill do dat, but i need to wait till i can get ahold of my brothers car its all already set up for a system, in the mean time, someone also told me something about brand new subs, he said that you need to give them time to break in, and he said that might make it go in to protect, oh and the stereo only has one rca plug that says sub on it, no left and right, it also has other rca outputs that do have left and rights, 3 sets labled Front, rear, and Center, but the one that says sub is the only one that the subwoofer controls on the stereo will for. btw, wat does book mean?

i dunno, im a lil bit worried, although i have seven days if the amps bad i can return it, when i first turn it on, it goes into protect pretty quick, when i try to bump it, but after like five or ten min of lettin it play at a low volume, it starts to work a lil better, it will pound pretty hard, my cd player goes from 0 to 40, and only lets me get in to about 30 or 31 and the it goes in to protect, it will go silent and the start back up after a few seconds, but if i do it to much, or if i turn it up to say like 35, it will pound pretty hard for like 5 seconds, then the protect goes on and stays on and i have to reset the HU to get it to turn back on, and when i turn it up that loud, the sub sounds clean, it doesnt sound distorted or anything, besides the fact it doesnt hardly play high bass notes, it doesnt smell or smoke, i can tell it has alot of power, its like the amp wont let it unleash it. Before this i had a pair of 380rms 12" sony xplod subs, and a pair of 500rms sony xplod amps to push them, and it would get louder than this new system is getting before it goes in to protect mode

oh btw, i also wanted to put this out there, im not really a professional at setting all the controls on the amp, im familiar with the input sensitivity and the lp/hp filter switch, but as for any other controls on the amp in jus not sure...

did you set the settings on the amp yourself?

what did you set the gain/ bass boost/ lpf frequency?

and if that amp is a mono amp there is no way you're running it at 2 ohms.

edit.....just saw your last post. you may want to lower the gain. it may be too high causing it to clip and go into protect mode

ok, heres all the controls on my amp and what they are set to, infrasonic filter switch, (0 - 15hz - 25hz) i have it set to 15hz, the phase switch ( 0 - 180) i have it set to 0, the Bass Boost level control ( 0 - 15) i have it set to 5, the LPF freq, i have it set to like 100 hz, and the input sensitivity is set to about 1.5

i was thinking that i was at 2ohms( im a dumb a$$) southwest helped me realize that was wrong, it is DVC, its wired at 1ohm, but i have it wired to i can switch between 1 or 4 ohms, the amp has two positive terminals, and two negs, i jus ran a speaker wire from each coil up to amp, and if i want to run it at 4 ohms, i could just disconnect the neg from Coil 1 and the Pos from coil 2 and clamp them together, and i grounded it to the same spot where the battery is grounded.

Im not really sure about how you have it wired. How long is your ground? Even though the amp says it is 1ohm stable this doesn't actually mean it is....Try re-wiring it for a 4ohm load. Run wire from pos. on amp to pos. of one voice coil. Run neg. from amp to neg. on the other voice coil. Now run a wire from the left over pos. on one voice coil to the neg. of the other voice coil.
