new subs, need to find the right box

i just picked up a pair of RE audio se X series. they are 10 inch subs and D2's. i have an older model, rockford fosgate 1500 watt 1 channel mono block amp. im looking for a good box for my subs, right now i just have a genaric ported box for 2 10's. but my freind says i need a box with at least 3 cubic feet of air space. does the amount of airspace equal the amount or hrz? i want a box tuned to 30hrz. sorry im a noob, but mabe you guys can steer me in the right direction. thanks
