new sub not moving at all

i changed my sub out today for a new re audio se 12 and got nothing. its a 4ohm dvc so i wired the voice coils up for 2 ohms since my amp is 500wrms @ 2 ohm, and confirmed correct at 2ohm with a multimeter.

i then connected the sub to the terminals and verified 2 ohm on the outside terminals. satisfied that I have it connected properly I fired everything up and got nothing but a faint hum from the sub. i verified the sub is getting power. i had the gain turned down a bit but it was still showing about 20v at the terminals. the cone was going nowhere.

any ideas what's wrong here? it's supposedly a new sub. i got it from audio-club on ebay which other people I know have had success with.

turn up the gain?? check all of your setting on your headunit and amp.

Now that would be worse than the sub just not moving.

yep my l7 blew bc the coils were labeled wrong

the gain is fine, 24v should be around 300w, at least enough to see some movement. low pass is at 120hz, subsonic filter is at 25hz, bass boost is at zero

It's possible. What do I need to do to find out the polarity of the coils, or if the coils are even working?

rcas are connected and showing I want to say 2v, i dont remember for sure but they were putting through a signal.

have you tried another sub in its place just to confirm that it accually is the sub causing the problem ??...if not ild do that next and go from there

use a small AAA OR AA battery and touch the wires connected to each coil at a time. the cone will move out if if wired right. then do both coils at the same time to make sure you wire them together right.

connect a 9v battery to the terminals on one of the voice coils and see if it pops.

Ok, I have the sub inside now and I tried the AA battery and the cone didn't move. Do I need to try the 9v to see if it will move?

sure. but doest sound to good for the coils so far. are both not working?
