new sub for amp

i got a kicker kx400.1 (rated 420 w MAX on the cerificate sheet) my maw12 is 350rms. im having major trouble setting the gains on it.. bass only hits very well and hard when the volume is at 43/45 but that gives me major distortion in my coaxials. if i turn the gains down, bass boost, etc.. the bass output is very minimal, unless i put the bass on my HU up, which then again, causes distortion in my coaxials. soooo... i figured id just get a sub with like 500w rms to make it easier on myself. any suggestions? would a type r work well with this amp?

what is the ohm rating on the maw? What are the specs on the amp?

dvc 4ohm, wired down to 2 ohm in paralell. amp is rated 1 x 400w @ 2ohms (14.4dc) max rating is 420 on my cert sheet

oh i know.. actually i checked yesterday out of curiosity. im almost positive its 2ohms. + to +, - to - from amp to VC1 then i got + from VC1 to + on VC2, - VC1 to - VC2

no like this. thats a 2ohm speaker, mines 4ohms. my 4ohm wired like your picture would produce an 8ohm load

Are you coaxials powered from your headunit? Just curious. but it seems that u have the sub wired right. EVer thought of geting one of the new tc sounds db500s, they are on sale right now for 75 bucks and are 400 rms

yes powered by my HU. sometimes the bass will be majorly loud, then cut down like its not getting enough power (done this with 3 different amps now) this kicker 400.1 should be perfect for the sub.
