New Stereo Integrity Mag Proto: Testing Results

Is there ANY hope of IB potential?
Yes, just not with 1000 watts. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
Good stuff. I don't have the electrical to run two of these sealed, but I think I may want more output than one can offer. An infinite baffle setup would probably allow me to run two, and have the added low end output of IB to boot. =)

Nick, let me know if I'm thinking about this the wrong way. The other option might be to just wait for the BM's and run them both in the regular sealed alignment.

Ive been salivating over the new mags for so long now I think my throat's gone permanently dry. Sounds like a real contender to the IDMax for an extremely SQ oriented SQL driver.

I only added that little SQL comment at the end cuz I know how much Neil (devildriver) will like it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

As Chad mentioned, the new Mag doesn't NEED 1000 watts to get it going. The new Mag blows the previous Mag out of the water efficiency-wise. Did you catch what Chad said about the output? This Mag sealed had the output of Jim's ported 12 with the same amount of power! Now that is what I call output! (I won't say strictly efficiency because I don't like that term due to its implications with the dreaded 1W/1M figure a lot of people are obsessed with) And speaking of which, there is a neat article on "efficiency" vs. output in our technical page for those who are interested in learning. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

BM's are an option though - especially when you consider the total enclosure volume required for two 12's is 1 cubic foot. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif But again, with the design of the drivers you won't need 500 watts to each driver to reach full potential. The power handling ratings are just that - a power handling rating...not a power requirement.

Will these be D2 or D4? I was looking at the BM's, but didn't see any D2 versions. On SI's site, the Mag link says D2, but I didn't see anything about the VC in the specs...

XBL is not inefficient, some drivers that used it were -- but the topology is not.
//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/iagree.gif.15d6c075ee8d3913ba26866d06993068.gif

XBL^2 by itself is not inefficient. The suspension was designed to work in the target enclosure size and type - small sealed. And as I stated before, this version of the Mag is more "efficient" than the previous version in sealed enclosures. New Mag's are XBL^2 and the previous Mag's were standard overhung. So in this case, XBL^2 allows for higher efficiency, a MUCH larger bandwidth, and a BIG reduction in inductance.

PS: The information on coil configuration is on the Mag web page: http://stereointegrity.com/mag.php and the BM information is like-wise on the BM web page: http://stereointegrity.com/bm.php
