No, it just didn't like alot of power ported, mechanically - the soft suspension likes to have the spring of a small sealed box behind it.

It did not blow during vented testing when Chad had it, just didn't care for it.

No it didnt blow with 400 watts ported, nor did it blow at all. We put a decent amount of power on it, 500ish maybe more maybe less, and the woofer was reaching its mechanical limit.

Where did you read / hear that it "blew up" during testing? It didn't blow/break at all.

The Mag v4 was designed for a small sealed application only. When we sent it to Chad for testing we asked him to try it out in a vented enclosure anyway just to see what happened. He tested it and confirmed that it did not like anything over 500 watts when ported.

Designing a subwoofer to work in a specific enclosure (small sealed) has good and bad things: The good - it works REALLY well in the target enclosure type. The bad - it doesn't work well in anything else. In this case, it didn't work well ported because...it wasn't designed for ported.

PS: If I wanted to design a driver that worked well in anything, I could. Take a look at our previous Mag's. They're the jack of all trades, but they didn't do any one thing exceptionally well. The decision for small sealed box was made 2 years ago, not after it didn't perform well vented.

And just so there's no ambiguity here - the BM's are being designed as a small box SEALED ONLY subwoofer also.
