New setup, need help with electrical

if you go with a local shop they the one by me can boost any alternator up 20-30 percent and get smaller pulleys. try local around your area 50-60 more amps cant hurt. It cant hurt to ask a shop what they can do. If you want me to call the place by me I can see what they can get and maybe they will ship. I have dealt with them for 10+ years they always are straight with what they say output will be. the only gripe I have ever had is a crappy looking fan inside, just not blasted and repainted well.

if you don't get a bigger alternator I would start with 3 big batts all the same 1 up front 2 in the rear and more runs of wire might help but I would go with the batts first.
you can get a bigger alternator right away or see what happens. 150 is decent already depending on what kind of headlights and other acc you have like heated seats and crap.

edit check the diagrams i doubt big three would screw you car up all you are doing is adding wire.
Its a benz so im guessing HID's and heated seats and junk like that.

Yea if you could do that and send me a PM id appreciate it.

why does everyone recommend batteries? Why not just get a decent alternator for around $250?
Alts cannot respond quickly to the variable load that music requires. They can do well if you are burping (constant load), but playing music is a whole different matter. Playing music requires batteries. Period.

See if Mechman makes an alt for that Benz. For that kind of power I would do .....
250 amp alt

Big 3

Yellowtop up front if you can fit one and a Kinetik 2400 for the rear. And another 2400 if you are still dimming.

well you find me a "decent" alt for my 08 honda fit for $250
i would recommend putting a d3100 in the rear.
If you tried to put a 250A+ alt in that car, you would have only about 40 hp left to drive with. I am sure you notice how much power the AC takes from the motor, imagine that times 2 or 3.

Jesus I dont see how I could dim with a 250A alt alone, much less with the batts. This doesnt seem to be much power compared to what alot of people run.
See my comment above. Just because an alt is rated at 250A does not mean it can output that at any given time. At lower RPMs, it will put out a fraction of that 250A. Also, if you have a variable load (music) then an alt cannot ramp up it's output fast enough to keep up with the demand. Batteries are still needed.

I am not trying to advocate that an alt is not needed. I am saying that there is no one solution. When you are asking for 2000W+ power, you need a serious investment in power. You will need a strong HO alt plus extra battery capacity. The batteries you choose should be able to provide power quickly. That is where the car audio specific batteries come in. On top of that, you have to make sure that all of the wiring in the vehicle is large enough to handle the amount of current that will be surging through it. A 2000W system will be pushing ~ 140A of current alone. That would require at least 2 gauge wire just for the audio. Add in the rest of the cars needs and you are well above what a piece of 2 gauge can handle. You will need to do the big 3 with 1/0 for sure.
