New Install Help (Pictures Included)

hi people, i have a question about my subwoofer i have had recently installed, first let me explain the setup.

When I bought the car it had 6 speakers already installed, Rockford Fosgate

2 tweeters

2 5 1'4 door speakers

2 6x9 in the rear (under backseat window)

the other day i purchased the following from bestbuy

sony cdx-57710 headunit

rockford fosgate punch stage 1 - 12' subwoofer

rockford fosgate 2-channel RF2002 (200 watts @ 2 ohm bridged) For SubWoofer

Alpine mrp-5240 mulichannel amp to power my 6 other speakers

1/2 farate capacitor

I took the car to them, and it took them around 4 hours to complete, they said they went above and beyond what they usually do when install for peoples cars.

[The specs don't really matter.. but might as well]

2000 honda accord

inline 4 v-tec with turbo/bov/intercooler/headers/dual exhaust/msd ignition etc... @ 350hp dyno

carbon fiber hood/fiberglass frontend/sideskirts/backend/18'in wheels

dynamat extreme coating the entire top/bottom of trunk

I have 2 questions.

1. how can i keep the subwoofer from moving around, any suggestions? I was thinking velcro? I am a SoundQuality person and don't care to blast my music to deafening volume.. I usually play my audio with volume at 35% of HU max.

my crossovers (as u can see mounted on the inside of both doors in 1 of the above pics, light up when the bass is being hit

2. my subwoofer, it seems that if i am playing my music below about 50% that the bass is coming from my 6x9's in the rear and doesn't seem like my subwoofer is hitting at all, and my crossover lights are beating with the music as they should be..

However, if i turn the music up to "Loud" as most of you probably play it, i then see the subwoofer start hitting and crossover box light start matching up with the beat.. I am wondering is this normal? I thought the subwoofer no matter how "Loud" the volume is should be hitting at least some, it seems that only when I turn the music up loud.. anything lower the bass seems to be coming from the 6x9's .... is it a gain problem? crossover problem? or is it normal, I mean if im going to have to blast my music to even use the 12'in subwoofer I wouldn't have bought it...

I may be wrong, but I'll say what I think anyways...

With a simplistic Sony Head Unit, you probably dont have the option to control the highs/mids seperately from the sub altogether, so at low volumes the sub is just blending in with the rear 6x9s because it's not getting much power to the sub - at higher volumes the sub is getting more responsive to the power and it seemingly hits harder...

Maybe? Just a possibility...

Also - to secure the sub, you could use little L brackets, IE - screw it down into the floor of the car so that the L bracket is secure, and if the box tries to move it hits the bracket and wont move - - - one on each side of the box, and one somewhere in the front and the box shouldnt move

you can start by checking the gain on the amp that is powering the sub, i dunno about everyone else but i really dont like bass coming from speakers..u can try to turn the bass down on the speakers see if that helps.

I'm still sort of a noob but.. i gess this is how you learn...please bare with me.

MisterGrubbs, reduce your sig pic to a height of 225 pixels before a moderator see's it and gives you some guff about it.

As for the questions.

Reduce the output of the mids and highs in the vehicle and bump up the lows slightly, use the amp gains to do this. Another option is to remove the rear 6x9s entirely, as they are somewhat redundant when you have a subwoofer.

Velcro will work well to keep the box from sliding around.

Well, i can adjust the subwoofer db boost from the headunit up to -/+ 10db i believe. Also has cutoff frequency selection, its actually a pretty good one think it retailed for $280.

You may be right, its just blending in.. i was just wondering what i could do to make the sub more responsive to lower db's?

No,NO, NO.

Get rid of them entirely and do not replace them.

True concert like stereo sound should be repreduced in front of you, not behind and the open 6x9 holes will allow bass to flow more freely into the vehicle at lower volumes.

6x9s produce a lot of bass, period, right?

He's right, if you did remove them you'd get a clearer sound, which is what you want, correct?

If you have a strong front stage, theres no real need for those rear 6x9's as far as highs go.

Just play with it some - see if you can get it to sound better. If you have an option to change the subs sensitivity, then do so. Turn the bass down(as it will turn the bass down coming from your 6x9s) and turn the sensitivity to your sub up - maybe that'll help. Not sure?

Worth a try, but the best thing to do is to spend 30 mins and fiddle fart around with it and find sumin you like. After all, it's all personal preference isnt it?

You guys may be right... however I'm not exactly sure how I would go about that.. I don't wanna **** up the installation by pulling stuff out.. my bill was already high enough.

Anyway... Take out the 6x9's man, you will be happier. Return them if you can, if not, I guess stick with them and get an EQ to get it all sounding how you want.

985 bucks? Jesus bro lol - well think of it this way - play with the head unit and just fiddle fart with it and see if you can get something to work to your liking - if you mess it all up, go to a local shop and someone there will set it up for you free, more than likely.

Or you could just go to a local shop tomorrow and ask them to fiddle fart with your HU for you...lol, tell them whats happenin and see what they say(cant hurt)

If I removed those 6x9's, would that automatically open up more RMS watts to the 2 tweeters/2 door speakers? Or would that have to be re-wired?
