Hey CarAudio guys,

You guys have helped me out before, so lets see if you can assist me with my new problem.

Let me start off by saying I'm not into professional stuff. What I have is just to give me a little kick compared to the stock stuff.

I just got my wife a new car, a 2002 Grand AM GT Coupe, and she wants an MP3/CD player to go with her new ride.

I've installed dozens of systems and never ran into this issue.

Well, she wrecked her old car, a 2001 Grand AM Sedan, so the wiring harness is the same.

SO, I took her old MP3 player out of the wrecked car before it was junked and i just put it in the NEW Grand Am.....But it didnt work.

Here is what it did:

It seems like EVERYTHING working, but the faceplate wont turn on. Its as if the car was off. When I took the faceplate off the red LED was blinking, and when I put a CD in, it took it....and when I hit eject it would spit it out.

Well, I thought it might have been damaged in the wreck, so I bought her a new one..... I wired up the harness to a new harness, and pulled it in. Guess what?

SAME FRIGGIN THING....ARGGHHH!!! Everything works except the faceplate.

What the hell could be causing this? I followed and matched up all the wiring like it said.

The chances of this HU being defective is slim to none. Brand New. Never used.

Please O' Please tell me you guys know whats going on here.

Thanks for any help you can give!

Ok..

I hope I can give you a helpping hand..

If it was my install I would start with a Digital Multi Meter

& test All The Wires Just incase..

Constant- 12v

Acc- 12v when ign is on..

Ground- (Beeeeep)

Make Sure All OEM Amps Are Bi-Passed

Im Guessing you have a peripheral GMCO installed if you dont have Bose Or Onstar

If You Have ether one you will need to see www.peripheralelectronics.com

Then I Would Check To Make Sure The face Is Clipping On Just right..

If All Of This Checks out.. damb dude.. I dont know..

Good Luck

Bump!

You guys are the best of the best, you gotta have the answers.

If you dont know the EXACT answer, thats cool....just give me your opinion if you were in the same situation!

what wire harness is in the car if you dont have the interface?

You can get ACC at the ign harness.. Iv never hooked up a system on a 2000+ GM without the interface.. Not sure if it would work or not..

Also Check Ebay & Search the part # you need to find the best price Im sure Iv seen it for under $70

Sorry I Dont have a ferm Anser..

Peace & Good Luck..

Your 2002 Grand Am does not have an accessory power connection behind the head unit. The factory radio was controlled by the data bus. Your 2001 Grand Am was probably the same way. Typically you either need a special harness with a data-bus emulator module, or you need to find an alternate source for accessory 12v. Your symptoms sound like a radio with a 12v constant connection but no 12v switched connection.

For troubleshooting you can connect both power wires (red and yellow) to the yellow wire in the factory harness and see if the head unit works. If it does, then your problem is the accessory power connection.

yeah, thank you. You were absolutely correct.

The stock harness didnt have the red wire....the ignition wire.

I had to wire it to the ignition, and now it works great!

Thank you very much, and its working now!
