New Guy- System Upgrade questions

Hi, i jus joined the forum & would like to have a little insight on my setup. Currently i'm running a 15" RE SX & a JBL GTO 1201.1. I've recently wanted to redo things to be more efficient, better, top notch. My wiring was done using basically no kind of thought. I have little in depth knowledge about installs, but can ascertain most of the basics.

So..:

-I'm keeping the 15" SX [its a Dual 2 VC]

-I'm ditching the JBL amp cuz its not 1 ohm stable. Its being replaced with a US Amps Merlin MD1D that i ordered last night.

-I'm running & keeping my 0 gauge power & ground wires.

-I have my remote turn on wire at 18ga and its ran through a switch so I can turn the system on/off [is this ok? should it be fused? remote wire has little current, right?]

-I'm upgrading my speaker wire to 12awg & running the sub @ 1 ohm [is 12awg a good enough size?]

-Ditched sharty RCAs for new Rockford Fosgate twisted RCAs

-box is built by me. ported & tuned to 35hz

-HU is a temporary unit Eonon 838 (or sumthin like that, but its a cheapo for now til i get get a better 1 but i still like it)

the complete opposite end of you. ur in Huntsville-north bama. i'm in brewton-less than an hr from florida. i've lived all over. u familiar wit a place up around huntsville called Hazel Green?
