New car, or used + build?

What would you guys do? Right now I'm wanting to buy a new car, but the thought of building something up has crossed my mind. If i buy new, I wont be buying untill after the new year.. sometime around march-mid may. If i go the build route... I'm thinking like an 89 240sx. Ill have at least $10,000 for a downpayment on a new car. As it stands right now, i have $2800+ in my bank account.

If i were to get an 89 240, it would be because ive been told that they were the lightest made by an owner, i work at a place that makes suspension parts for them, and it would get a whole new motor\******... but what type of car are you suggesting? if i went new, it would be a sti.

id buy somethin like a 94 or 95 civic.. there value dosent depreciate much so if u end up sellin it down the road you'll get some of the money back. You can get a NICE fixed up car on ebay for 5 or 6 g's.

fwd is not what im looking for, i should have posted that earlier. if i wanted a fwd i could buy my friends built 93 gsr that runs mid 13's.

both every car depreciates fast right when u drive it off the lot it drops a couple g's anyway.. honda is 1 of the better ones but since u dont want fwd.....
