New car for kid...?

Most of you know I've been looking for a car for my kid to buy. I couldnt get financed. But he has 2500.00 and is making on average sometimes 100.00 min. to 200.00 a week. I told him I'd cover his insurance, but let him buy the car so he will be more responsible with it. I'm looking for a slower car that gets good mpg for him, but still looks nice. I convinced him the cheaper the car he gets, the more money he will have for gas and food and etc. on the weekends out. He was wanting a mazda millenia with the leather and sunroof. But I found this, and told him I got a buddy that could do some nice leather for him.

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x320/Forben70/car-4.jpg I'm good friends with the owner, its a high mileage car, but good for a starter. He told me he'd give it to me for $1k. That way he would still have 1500.00 in his bank account. I thought if you add some 35% tint, and leather, this will be a nice car. What do you guys think? Or should I buy it and sell it for profit?

Well like I said it is high mileage. 140k. But it runs good. I know the owner, and know he takes very good care of his cars. He is also a machanic. Car has had synthetic fluids since 60k miles. One time owner. Air blows cold and all. I was thinking it looks pretty nice for that price, esp. with a good tint job. Already has chrome wheels. Should I have him get this, or get it and sell it. I was thinking you could sell it localy for 3500. atleast to the right person.

Id just get it for him...hard to find a great buy nowadays.....if you sell it you may not find a better deal...140k is a bit on the high side but nothing if it was well taken care of.

Mileage is a small part of telling if its a good buy...id rather a well maintained 100k car than a poorly maintained 50k

Yea I've looked at the 626. They seem similar to the millenia with the leather and sunroof and all but I like the milly a little better. But doesnt the Grandam GT look like a much better buy for 400.00 cheaper then that? Not to mention theres lead way for negotiation. I can probally get him down to 900.
