New AA SMD Woofer

here is something scott posted on the SSA forums - i just read it:-----------------

No, we have nothing to do with TC or Audiopulse. My understanding is that TC and Audiopulse are both owned by the same people and that TC doesnt operate in the same capacity it used to. I had purchased the patent and rights to the 6 spoke versions of that basket at auction a few months back and will be using it solely for AA and one other OEM company we build for. We are currently tooling a 6 spoke version of a 10" and 12" as well to fall under our patent. The previous 10" and 12" are under a separate patent for 4 spokes. We had no interest in purchasing that one as we feel that the 6 spoke is far stronger for the larger applications that we will use it for.

In regards to the new SMD Series sub for AA there are a couple of changes being made for production. The main two are the suspension integration and the magnets. While the OD will be the same size, they are actually 6mm taller per magnet (gaining almost 1/2" more height for the pair). Also, the magnet boot has been tooled for this double stack vs the current shorter stack.

The design itself is a natural progression of what we have learned with the BTL and Mayhems. While it does not vastly improve on overall excursion, we have seen that to be far less a concern than increased thermal ability and mechanical power handling. Overall just a tougher package.

Now back to SEMA and dealers

Thanks,

Scott
ok that makes more sense.

i was expecting more out of you in your post.
I thought some company called crossfire (edit) owned the patent now, i didn't go the auction. thb, im glad at least its in another Americans company's hands.

the frame was designed back in 00 or 01 by Corey Jackson who worked at TC at the time. it was tooled twice as a matter of fact, but the first tool was lost when a vender went under (good thing thing you can tool things twice for twice the price!)

why didnt you go? i expected u to be forsure there.

edit sending a pm ur way

according to mr. Atwell's post he said they are tooling a 10" and 12" version of that basket (6 spoke), the original eclipse Ti 10" and 15" baskets used 4 spokes...

i was just saying that unless they shrink the width of the spokes (which im sure they will) then the basket will look crowded

Rumor was that Thilo had bought back up all the patents that were sold in the auction (except one minor one). I was specifically told he purchased all the patents that included the LMS style baskets. I was also told AudioPulse sold all the patents, and Thilo purchased them all himself, personally, as a way to avoid bankruptcy for the company. I guess I need to flog my information source.

i was also fed the same info... from mr. stompler himself

What? Thilo lie? no....never.
I know I know, but seems odd to lie about this. What would it gain him to lie about such a thing, especially knowing the truth would come out as soon as another company starts marketing their own 6-spoke frame. Just seems like this whole LMS frame thing has turned weird. lol
