New AA SMD Woofer

Rumor was that Thilo had bought back up all the patents that were sold in the auction (except one minor one). I was specifically told he purchased all the patents that included the LMS style baskets. I was also told AudioPulse sold all the patents, and Thilo purchased them all himself, personally, as a way to avoid bankruptcy for the company. I guess I need to flog my information source.
He didn't get the patent to the 6 spoke...

The rest of them are useless...lol.

meh... it doesnt really matter... companies have used that frame long before TC/AP sold the patents for it
Per a legal agreement with TC/AudioPulse.
With such a lethargic attitude on the subject, Im surprised you bothered to apparently register on this forum just to reply to this thread, letting us know you dont really care.

ill give you that one... it provided the lol's

what about the LMS patents?... i wouldnt consider those useless
When you can get the same performance, or very very very similar (if not better) out of some other technology that nobody has the rights to, and you don't have to pay for it...wouldn't you do that?

Edit: So yes, in my point of view..it's worthless. You may think it's gold; I...don't. As is the screw on baskets...

which tech are you refering 2?

xbl?

Nope xbl^2 is patented...and you have to pay for it.

There's others out there..that aren't, and yield similar results. Why one would run a variable density coil and a huge gap is beyond me...but i'm not one to think inside of any sort of box.

Have fun figuring it out though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Maybe, Maybe not. Regardless...cool technology of sorts...it is simply of no use to me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.

Hammer down MC...i've gotta jump in the reverb chamber and do some testing.

i never said it wasnt cool //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

besides, ive got my hand in a varient of the tech, so i cant diss it

Per a legal agreement with TC/AudioPulse.
Some did so without a legal agreement. Not a good situation...that's why some were hesitant on purchasing this patent, as it may have required some legal investment to stop those who were using it without licensing or royalties.

Nick doesn't like anything that's focused on linearity. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

No, it's not a matter of not liking linearity, linearity is a great thing. I don't like the idea of having to use huge gaps and a huge motor to get any sort of a decent bl or motor force out of it...(wasting materials, adding cost, generally a sub-par ideology)

If things aren't glued down, the gap has to be wider...if the coil changes density in the gap...the gap..has to be wider. (again...wasting materials, adding cost, for being able to screw a basket on and off..is not worth it)

If you can have a +/- 3dBa response from 20-90Hz in a given scenario without using 'linear motor technology' or 'xbl^2' then why wouldn't you? You get the end result that you want, which is no equalization and it plays flat..and you don't have to pay for rights of technology that is patented?

What's more important..to say that something is 100% linear on a piece of paper but on the contrary sounds horrid, or something that sounds great..doesn't need EQ'ing...and is..98% linear through the entire stroke?

Then we get into the argument of..well wait a second. What if it is the general norm of psycho-acoustics for liking peaks..liking valleys..liking distortion? Liking true LIVE music? You can put 10 different people in a room and it will be 10 different ways of perception...you'll have "sq" guys who think flat is god. You'll have horn loaded compression drivers that many think sound amazing...

A "linear motor" is great...but it's not the motor that is linear..it's nothing more then a huge gap that changes the depth of the wire of coil that is in certain areas..which effectively is a reverse view of xbl^2...get the flux concentration out...get the peaks out.

Sad thing is..the vast majority of people, including myself, can't stand the sound of something that is 100% flat..it sounds dead to me, and I don't like it...

Anybody can argue numbers and technology until their blue in the face. When i see somebody's eyes light up because they are hearing things that they haven't heard before in their stereo...THAT is what it's all about.

I hate the argument of "meter loud vs ear loud".
For an ear, there are three things that matter:

1) Pressure at the ear

2) Duration of the pressure

3) Frequency of the pressure

If we assume the duration and frequency of the signal is the same (which it should be, in any direct comparison), and we assume that the meter is placed where your ears are, then a driver or vehicle that is louder to the meter by a certain factor will be louder to your ears by that same factor.

This is one of those legendary "my 2 cents" threads where no one actually says anything.
See, Neil, when I listen to music I put my head next to the kick panel. It should make sense now
