New 3-Way Design

I am finally getting around to designing a loudspeaker system around the CSS drivers that I won from Audiojunkies.

I am looking at doing a 3-Way design using them as the bass drivers. Right now I am thinking of crossing them over in the 300-400 Hz range. But, other than that I'm not sure what drivers I am going to use.

I have been looking at the Seas 27TDFC as the tweeter but I'm not sure. I might just use the Dayton DC-28FC tweeter. Not really in the same class as the Seas but still pretty cheap and I have been pleased with another project I used them on. I would like to keep with a silk dome of some type for this design. So any input is appreciated. I like like to cross it over 2nd order in the 3.5-5Khz range.

Now for the mid-range. I have no idea. I've been looking at the Dayton RS-100 but I'm not too sure about it since it is considered a 'full range' driver. I've also been looking at the Dayton RS-52 also. I've never built a 3-way before so I don't really know jack about the drivers. So, mucho input is appreciated.

My idea crossover goals are the CSS from 20Hz to 400 Hz 2nd Order.

Midrange from 400Hz to 4 kHz 2nd Order and the Tweeter 2nd order at 4kHz.

Any ideas?

TMWW, 2.5-way setup instead. That way, (assuming this is a budget setup), you can see how they sound in bandpass and lowpass, and if it sounds like anus, just pop in a new filter and run it 3-way.

IMO, the Hi-Vi SD1 rapes that Dayton tweet. I've used both, and it's really amazing.

Well I only have 2 woofers total. And I don't really feel like spending $200 on two more. So it is going to be a TMW setup. I'd rather not run the CSS driver too high because from playing with it 700ish Hz & up it starts to sound funky. And obviously a tweeter isn't going to be too happy about playing that low.

I've never used the Hi-Vi tweeters before but will check them out.

Are you talking about the RS-100?
Yes, but I am speaking in more general sense. You mention the RS-100. I have no experience with it, I'm just saying don't be turned off by it being labeled "extended range, especially if you want to cross it over high at 2nd order.

With the extended range driver serving as your midrange you should be able to cross it over fairly high. I'd lean towards the higher range (maybe 5khz+ 2nd order) to get the crossover point up above the average range of vocals. I don't know anything about the CSS woofer and I'm not sure how well it would work in a T-line. Are you using the 7"? I would try to cross it in with a 1st order slope serving as BSC.

Yea I haven't run the numbers yet so I don't know what box I'm using...

I might just use a sealed box for simplicity. But, yea the driver is the SDX7.

well found out those canton tweeters are 60w and are 8 ohm.

so the offer is on the table.

if you want i can try to find my dmm and test the ohms for you.

but i definitley know they are 60w

and i found one of the mids that i took out of the case as well.

the other one i blew lol didnt realize how good they were.........

it played for about 4 minutes on a 150w amp. but the one i have is just a little dusty.

maybe good center channel?
