New 18" Fi BTL Design *PICS*

Nice Flex Vid!!!

I wish I lived close to a bunch of Fi BTL owners so we could all compare setups. Regardless I'm gonna make another box, I have the wood just waiting to be cut in my garage. The question is which design. I'll definatly go bigger because I don't see that making the box will will do anythign but help with what I'm trying to accomplish.

Nice vid, bro. If I'm not doin' anything this weekend I'll see if we can meet up. I'd definitely like to hear this *****.

sike..maybe juss 1 15 btl...how much louder was the btl compared to the Rs..

Master467, the BTL is much louder then my old type R's with using the same 2250 rms amp on each. The reason why I say it's louder is because my BTL flex's my vehicle way more and I can actually see my windshield wipers bounce and they never did that with the R's. Another comparision is when Im driving back home from work I pass by this chop shop that has a few trick rides outside of it that have alarms. I know they have alarms because I've talked to the guys that work there when i had the R's and made a few of there alarms go of while I was parked a few feet from them in the parking lot. Anyways when I drive by them on my way home Im about 3 lanes over and the R's would never make there alarms go off while doing a 40mph drive by 3 lanes over. Now when I drive by 3 lanes over at 40mph I make all 3 of there alarms go off.

I'll do an actual video comparison soon.

YAY..i say u do it..and how is that planet audio 2250..i might buy this guys on here...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

The Planet Audio PA2250D / VX2200D is a great amp for the BTL IMO. For a 15" BTL it's perfect match. As you can see from my excursion vid it's really pushing my 18 pretty good, but it probabaly could take a lil more for daily driving. Overall it's hard to find any other amp that does over 2000rms for well under $300.

big box tuned low has more lowend than a smaller one, try 7-8cubes or more if you can fit it

BTL's arnt going to rule the lowend dept i wouldnt think

also where is you SS filter at on your amp? try lowering it a little and see, i remember my A3000s were weird with that, the lines didnt match up with the numbers really on the SS, so i just tried to set it by ear somewhere close

youd be surprised...

BTLs werent built to be low end woofers... They are straight SPL woofers adapted a bit to be a good daily driver sub.

If you're looking for the crazy low-end, look into some high end TC sounds subs, or the new 06 XXXs.

For a more low end, musical box, id say check into something like 8 cubes @ 30hz with about 100 sq in of port.

Very good advice, I agree with you 100%. The BTL gets hella loud, but wasnt made for crazy low-end, although it still sounds pretty good for a SPL sub. I'm ok with this because my main goal was to get louder then my type R 12's that were in 5 cubes @ 34hz which were powered off the same 2250rms amp. I accomplished this goal by a longshot so I'm very content and happy with my upgrade to the BTL.

Since I still have about a sheet and a half of mdf left I want to build another box just to see what the BTL sounds like in a larger box then my current which is 6.7cubes after sub and port...

My final decision on the second box is gonna be 8 cubes @ 31hz with 110sq.in. of port in a CRX style design with sub up and port back. I'll design the box so the port will be about 4" away from the rear hatch.

Either that or I'm gonna wall of the entire rear hatch area and have sub and port forward.

Hmm...after some extensive port area reduction testing, this last weekend, I would say if you're going for deep bass that 30hz with the *most* port area you can afford is your best bet...

I reduced port area by about 10 sq. inches for each session and re-tested...

My port is 5 x 20 -- the foam plug was 2 inches thick...so for example the first reduction made it a 5 x 18 port, then 5 x16, and so on...

Too bad you don't have a meter...you can tell exactly where you gains are occurring after your new box...
