need some installation help. i'm totally new.

hey everyone -

i like all of the excellent advice i see goin on here so i thought i'd post my problem.

for Christmas i got a new stereo for my car. i drive a 99 Saturn SL2 if you need to know that too...

i replaced the standard saturn stereo with a panasonic cd/mp3 player. ever since, my speakers or something has been rattling. i don't know if its something to do with the new system or the speakers themselves.

i've been wanting to do more with my car, so i went out and found a box with speakers already installed in it. the box is 32" wide by 13" high and the front angles back from 7" deep on the bottom to 5.5" deep at the top. it has 2 8-inch subs, 2 4-inch speakers and 2 little speakers behind a plastic rectangle thing... (i don't know what to call anything, to be completely honest with you)

i want to install it behind my back seat and block off the trunk completely.

NOW what i need to know is how to install it...

do i need an amp?

can i wire it to the back speakers?

i really don't know what i should do. but the box had a great deal on it so i just bought it, spur of the moment. maybe that was just dumb.

if anyone can help with what i should do, please please please let me know.

its probably crap, but i guess you could put an amp on it if you want. whats the rms?

well thats the thing...

i don't know anything about any of this.

yea it probably is crap, but i'm hoping that it'll be better than nothing. i'm not looking to really make my car a sound sauna (eventually i will to a different car) but i just want it hooked up.

it's just a cheap full range box... you won't get any booming bass out of that though... you COULD hook an amp up 2 it...

but thats the thing... if i don't have to, then i don't want to.

i remember seeing 300W somewhere on the tag but i don't know if it was max or min or whatever...

if there's a way i can just wire it in... thats what i want to do.

i don't need booming bass, i'm just tired of rattling speakers.

I would use a small amp, no less than 50w rms x2 to power the box. It can always be used to power front speakers down the road when you do a sub system upgrade, so it is money not wasted. Even though these boxes can sound like a$$ and are quite cheap, it may give you what you need for now. Any time that you want a little volume, you need an amplifier to help you get there, especially in the case of larger diameter speakers.

It should be wired to the rca ouput of your Panasonic cd player. As it is a "full range" box it can be attached to either the front or rear pre-amp out or if you do not care about the mid and horn in the box then it can be wired to the sub out rca on the cd player (if it has one). This is your best bet, you can't hear clean and clear top end and mid from a trunk.
