so basically i need some new components as the title says. looking to spend around 200.

My car fits 5x7s\6x8's but i can get/make an adapter rings for 6.5's too.

Id really prefer a set where you can mount the tweeter on axis on the mids to avoid cutting up my door panels, (ive only had the truck a few days)

i really want the AQ components and am very close to buying them (hopefully tonight) but i dont think you can mount the tweeter on the mid.

any ideas?

You could always make a mounter to mount over the speaker?

But most tweets have a surface mount so you only have to drill 1 or 2 holes.

And my personal favorite is the Hertz ESK165's. I got 'em for $180-something shipped BNIB.

ive read to be careful buying hertz because theres alot of counterfeits floating around. did you get yours off ebay? do you know what to look for to tell if there fake?

I got mine off a member on this forum.

And, quite honestly, if they are fake. They're the best sounding fakes EVER. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

But I'm not sure about what to look for. Everything can be counterfeited. Just make sure that the speaker you're looking at matches the model on the website and whatnot. The ESK165's have a yellow cone, and a really small (thickness wise) tweet. That's all I can really say.

I just know I'm in love with my speakers. I rarely put them on full tilt... but they really brighten up around 75w RMS, and just continue to get louder, and louder, and louder... and the kicker is. They sound just as crisp at high volumes than at low.

I had two sets of CDT's before. (The EF-61FG's and the EF-61's with TW-25 tweeters.) They were good, but these are just soooo much better.

thanks for the help. i have never even heard an aftermarket set of componenets. ive always stuck with coaxs to keep things simple.

There are some really good sounding coaxials. I mean, all they are, for the most part, is just compacted component sets. It has an on board cross-over, and the tweeter rests on top of the cone.

But, as far as imaging... Components can't be beat. They are much more dynamic, and allow placement of the speakers to meet the user's want... some people like the tweeters up high in the a-pillars, some like it right next to the mid-range. But it gives you the option of doing that.

And, in most cases, they're just better constructed.

Some members say that the 5x8 & other size speakers will have a better / more audible bass response. I've never heard any speakers like that, so I can't say differently. I just speak from experience.

those would be nice, but if your gonna run them off hu power. you will be dissapointed. and will most likely still be dissapointed amped. my 100.2 and the cdt's are a perfect match and will give you an amazing front stage with great midbass and very bright, clear highs. you will be very impressed. ill cut you a deal if you buy both. let me know

can you mount the tweeter to the mid? im using the amp in my sig for now (alpine MRV-f340) going to switch to an AQ4X90 eventually to have matching amps

im not 100% positive, but in the center of the cone of the mid, there is a removable piece and i believe the tweeter can mount to in. dont quote me on it though as i have never tried it or looked into it.

Heard a set of AQ comps the other night and was very impressed. Quite loud and sounded good. Decent midbass in doors with no deadening and the tweeters were loud but not harsh. Only heard them for a few songs but I liked what I heard...
