Need quick lesson on clipping, have a question

kk, so it just depends on the frequencies im assuming? like I can play Hypnotize- Young jeezy with the remote gain knob maxed out and have no problems with the light lighting, but on a song like Money Man-Gorilla Zoe or No Help-Trae, the light will start to turn on around 3/4 or less....should i maybe reset my gains? what would be of choice? 50 hz sine wave @ -3db (What i set it with) or would something else be better?
please read the thread i linked you to. like i said pay a lot of attention to Chad's comments. mild clipping is ok, if your not seeing the clipping lights blink a tiny bit every now and then you are wasting power. that thread should explain everything to you.

i made that thread asking why my clip lights on my 4 channel were blinking while playing music. the amp i am referring to is rated at 200x2 for my mids, and 100x2 for my tweeters. i didn't have it up THAT loud and still have the light blinking. am i pushing 300 watts rms into my front speakers? NO, but the rail voltage of the amp is being met on large peaks. so on large peaks i AM sending my comps (that are rated at 60 watts a side) a good 300 watts on very large peaks. yes it's loud but not that loud. and i honestly don't think i need to give them more power than i am. 300 watts a side already sounds CRAZY, but like i said i am on that amp still blinking the light a tiny bit at times.

yea thx for the link i skimmed over it real quick and got a better idea of the purpose pf the light is but i will read when i come back because i have to leave. But, i think i may still have to reset it because U said if it blinks a tiny bit every now and then then im fine, but that is not the case on the majority of songs (most songs have the light flash constantly on the low notes), so i think i will have to reset the gains. thx for the help be back in a little

i'd say play the loudest song you play, as loud as you would listen to it normally and set the gains using the clip light. make it so the light just barely lights for very short bursts. if it's on all the time prepare to buy a new sub. if it just blinks a bit now and then thats great. imo if you never ever see it light then you are just wasting power by setting your gain to low.

but, if the light staying on for an entire note then yes set the gain lower. i only listen to rock which is just lights the lights barely enough to see because the music is so fast and dynamic. playing rap with long drawn out notes will really make seeing the light easy.
