need opinions on new tv....ready to buy

at around 500 your looking at 720p resolution mainly. for around 800 you could get a decent set with 1080p. I would stick with Samsung or Sony, or else Panasonic.

perhaps these in no particular order

42" Samsung Plasma (720p) -around $700.00

32" Samsung LCD (720) - $550.00

32" Sony LCD (720p)- $549.99

Panasonic 42" Plasma (720p) -$725.00

get an lg 37 or 42 inch 720p lcd or a 720p panasonic plasma. 1080p is a waste of money unless you're going 55 inches or bigger. lg has some good quality tvs. panasonic has some of the highest rated plasmas out there. i've got a 42 inch 720 panasonic plasma model th42px80u; it looks better than my sony xbr. i've never owned an lg lcd, but i used to sell them and they always had extremely high customer ratings. i haven't heard too many good things about lg plasmas though. there's my 2 cents.

i have a 32" samsung in my bedroom and I abosutely love it. I got it back in 07 though and it was $900. I have a Dynex 42" that was $499 in the living room, but I don't think the picture is as good. It's a 1080p, but that doesn't matter since the highest cable is broadcast is in 1080i. I also don't think the refresh rate is as good on the Dynex, it does the job though.

i have the xbox360 on hdmi, the wii too regular audio/video, and a 5.1 surround system thru an optical cable from the tv to the optical in on the receiver.

If you're gonna go with plasma, I would normally say go Panasonic, end of story. However, this year's Samsung plasma models look great and are extremely well priced. If you are thinking of getting an lcd, for the money, Samsung = win. Personally, with a ps3, I would maybe save up a little for 1080p, or get a payment plan with a store like Sears which is where I work and we always have no interest, no payments deals going on with tv's. I don't care what anyone says, there is a HUGE difference between 720p and 1080p. Just shop around, and make sure you ask questions to your local stores.

but for me upgrading from a 98 tube tv, to a flat panel 720p, i dont think i would be dissapointed in 720p.

im sure theres a difference but to me i would rather spend my money (budget in mind) on a higher tier 720p plasma, then a lower end 1080.
