Need help with Car System

1992 Nissan Sentra XE

I'm looking into upgrading my current car speaker system

Everything is stock but there was a pionneer radio put in.

I want to get:

2 front and 2 back speakers

1 subwoofer

If needed: A amplifer

I'm on a budget however since im a noob i don't know how much to expect to pay for good quality equipment. I can't spend more then 500. I plan on wiring everything toghther. I have never done wiring on a car however i do build computers so if that helps in anyway cool.

I would need help with finding car parts (i can order online if that would help), and guides on how to wire everything up.

$500 wont get you much unless you buy used. and your looking at low power here and very cheap equipment. quality stuff you might need to double that budget.

Plus you still need a box to boot. I'll give you an example here. Front components $120 for cheapies sub $150. Box $150 amp $200 then you need a amp kit $60 this I can do

thats a very opinion based question as it depends what good bass is to you. your asking people that might have $4k invested in their systems and run alot power.

True, well my speakers now rattle and stuff when i turn the volume up. I want to eliminate this while also having some kind of bass. I don't need window shattering bass just something satisfying.

My suggestion to you is to do something like I have mostly done in the past. Build your system by hunting around for good deals on old school stuff. The old school stuff for the most part is better anyways. I used to buy whole systems for about 5-600 bucks. If you are keeping that headunit, just do what the other fella said here and go ahead and buy some cheaper front components. They will be a decent upgrade to factory speakers. You can run them off of the deck I am assuming, hence eliminating the need for another additional amplifier. Although, you will need one definitely for the sub. Your components will come with their own passive crossovers so you will just need to have an active crossover for your bass speaker on your bass amplifier. If you buy one set of components, one subwoofer in the box, and one amplifier, you should be easily able to accomplish this if you buy some good used older stuff. Just try to get stuff that might not be cosmetically perfect while ensuring the functionality is good. My only concern is that your sub might overpower your front speakers without any amp. Other than that you can easily do it.

Be careful with over powering bass. Its nice to have good bass but it can be overbearing real quick, if you dont have good components/power behind them. Your bass can drown out your vocals real quick.

Maybe Chris you might want to look at an amp that is capable of both a stereo and bridged mode off of the two physical channels. Could run the front and back simultaneously giving you a bit more volume up front. I believe the M50's i have do that.

Remember that bass is only a small portion of your system. i highly recommend getting a good amp and great components and starting there. Having pristine mids and highs makes having loud clean bass, that much better.

but from how you worded it earlier. you sound like your just trying to have loud bass and be cool. Dont be that guy, be the guy with the great sounding balanced system.

Rattles can be dealt with with the cheap way or the expensive way. If say your back deck is rattling. Take it off. Get abunch of pillow stuffing from a craft shop or walmart. Put it between the plastic deck part and the metal. If panels are rattling. Do the same. Tackling rattling is long precise process. gotta find every lil things and deal with it accordingly.

I think we assume people want what most of us have. I remember when I started..replacing door speakers with coaxials and getting a good budget amp and sub was more than enough. For $500 he can get some coax's, amp kit, used sub, used amp and even a prefab box for now until he gets more money to have a custom box built or build it himself. Not many of us started with systems even close to what we have now...I know I sure as hell didn't!

But when the OP gets everything installed...he of course will want more a couple months down the road. Search craigslist. Find something you think is good. Post on here and ask and we will give you an okay or a hell no. There is great things to be found for a great price but you gotta know what your looking for and sometimes have a little luck.

Also we have all spent alot of money stupidly getting shitty equipment and then learning what is good and what isnt. I think were trying to help others avoid that and get what they want the first time. Even if they have to spend a lil more than what they thought.

no need to double your budget. if you want a basic sound system, soundqubed hds2 12 goes for 99, look on amazon for a cheap class D amp like a pioneer goes for about 130, get your speakers on there also. there are decent pairs of door speakers going for less than 50 dollars a pair. wiring and everything else is on there for a reasonable price. if you need links let me know. im tryna help you save money, you say 500 is your budget. you can have everything you need to build your system and still have money left over. amazon is the place to go when doing a basic budget build.

didnt read threw the entire thread but heres what i would do, and did do about a year ago when i was in your place. Get 4 coax speakers for now (i went alpine sps 610s) and ran them off the head unit, i got a pioneer premier sub in a box and a Pa 900.2 amp from a car i already had at home i bought used. it didnt push more than 250 watts to the sub but for just running the coax of the HU, it was perfect. With this system, youll learn how to install, and then save up around 1500 for everything youll ever need for a system //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif if there is a limit to what you need, also i saw you mentioned door panels rattling? i used a **** ton of styrofoam and shoved them in all my door panels until i buy sound deadener, works great, pretty "ghetto" but all together it costed just under 500$
