Setup is in my signature, I got everything installed professionally by a shop that has a GREAT reputation and have been doing installs similar to mine for years and years... the first day i got the car back i noticed everything sounds great the power of the amp is amazing but after having it at high volume for a long time the amp turned off I'm guessing it went into protect mode. Soon as i turned my car off and turned it back on the amp instantly turned back on so i checked the gain on the amp and it was all the way up (i was surprised a shop like this would do something dumb like that) but anyways i turned the gain down to 3/4 instead of full power. The amp is still turning off on me and turns back on when u turn the car off and on again, i believe it lasts longer on now that the gain was lowered but it could be just all in my head. What is my issue here? Installation looks extremely clean even have an amp rack and wires LOOK perfect. Should i simply turn my gain down a little more to 1/2? I really want to fix this issue considering all the audio besides the HU has had only 2 days of use and its already giving my a headache.

Is the amp hot? If so, how hot? Like "one... two... **** that's hot!" or just warm?

Either get a SMD DD-1 and set the gain on your amp with it or buy a DMM (Digital Multi-Meter) and set the gain correctly that way. The correct gain on your amp depends on your Head Unit's output voltage through the RCA's. For all you know the appropriate gain could be 1/8 of the way up.

Also just because they have a good rep as a shop doesn't mean they fucked up your install. A friend of mine got his stuff done by a shop called Mobile One Audio and the first sub they put in blew within a week because they set the gain on the amp too high. He went back and got 2 new subs and a new amp for like 75% off and they've lasted about 6 months or so with no trouble. But my point is is that shops can **** up.

Your deck has 2V pre-outs and the amp has sensitivity range from 0.2 to 4V, meaning the gain should be set about half way. I'm not sure whether amps have protection circuitry for when input stage is overdriven, but I would even set it a bit less than half way.

i don't know much about car audio so don't know how to do either of those things so i wouldn't do them on my own id have to take them back to the shop which i was trying to avoid since they charged me an arm and a leg on my install. Cant i just keep going lower on the gain until it stops turning off?

awesome, i was also thinking turning the gain to 1/2 way would fix it which i don't mind at all because even at low gain my amp has plenty power.

Not the way to set gains at all. You need to check your vc's with a dmm. Might have a roasted sub man. Sounds like your amp may still be clipping too.
I don't think the dude has subs. Since his speakers are single voice coil, had a coil been blown, I don't think it would put out clear sound.

i don't have any subs only interiors and amp for interiors. Sound is super clear to me at all times i absolutely love how it sounds when its not in protect mode of coarse.

he doesn't even have a sub lol.

it's not hard at all to set your gains dude literally my 12 year old brother can do it lol. If you don't want to set the gains then just put the gain just below half and you should be set (like the guy a post or two above me said). And yes that hissing sound means you're gain is too high.

Go back to that shop and tell them that they ******* ****.

LOL already took care of that for you. So turn it down around half way or a little less and if you need it louder, turn the volume up a bit. Most amps now should do full power at about 0.5V anyway.
gotcha, thank you so much... i currently have the high pass filter on so my components aren't even getting any bass or very little of it to make way for my sub (JLW6) that is going to be installed sometime this week.
